Juliets Feelings - Romeo and Juliet

Categories: Romeo And Juliet

In the play 'Romeo and Juliet' Juliet shows an emotional character and personality and shows progress of maturity. Whilst being together Juliet has gained vast experience to make her that mature young girl.

Juliet receives news from the nurse that her cousin Tybalt was killed. Juliet is brought to tears as she finds out the murderer was her partner Romeo. The nurse says to Juliet how she can speak well of someone that has just murdered one of her family members.

Juliet said "Shall I speak ill of him that is my husband. This shows us that Juliet can't handle listening to the true and also that despite Romeo killing her cousin Tybalt she is mature enough to understand the situation as he would have been killed anyway for killing Mercutio. The maturity comes where she has had to deal with the death of her cousin and the fact that the killer was Romeo but on the other hand glad Romeo is not dead.

This shows us that Lady Capulet's relationship with Juliet is not like mother and daughter. Lady Capulet doesn't see Juliet's feelings and what's going on behind the scenes.

Lady Capulet tells Capulet about Juliet's rejection for Paris. The news doesn't go too well with him and makes him angry. Capulet tells Juliet in a aggressive manner that she is too marry Paris or else. Capulet ignores the consent of Juliet and is shocked by Juliet's reaction as he is not used to seeing her reply in such a manner. Juliet in tears cries out saying "Good father, I beseech you on my knees". This shows that Juliet is so upset she is begging her own father not to marry someone she is not in love with. This is not the first time in the play Juliet shows her emotion. Lord Capulet shows a lot of anger when Juliet refuses to marry Paris as it comes to a shock to him. He tells Juliet that she has to marry Paris or else. Where as in the beginning of the play Lord Capulet said "My will to her consent is but a part''. Therefore Lord Capulet surely deep down wants the best for his daughter but its also important for him who becomes Juliet's husband and Romeo wouldn't go down too well.

On the balcony scene where Romeo introduces him to Juliet that's when they fall in love and express their emotion's and cares for each other. Romeo uses a lot of words and phrases to show his love for Juliet. He says "Dear Saint at lips do what hands do''. This shows how Romeo expresses his love to Juliet and wants do with Juliet and his feelings.

The Nurse and Juliet have a very strong relationship, stronger then Juliet's and her mother. Juliet feels as if she can go to the nurse to talk about anything whereas she can't do that with her mother. The Nurse says "Thou was the prettiest babe that e'er I nursed. And I might live to see thee married once, I have my wish". This line sums up how the nurse feels about Juliet and how close they are. She relates to Juliet's childhood moments just to show her memories and care for her
