To be eligible for the National Honor Society is an honor to me. By being a part of this, I can show the skills that I have and how significant this is to me. I have been looking forward to this since I got into the National Junior Honor Society in middle school. To be a part of the National Honor Society, you have to have good grades as well as commendable characteristics. I believe I have both.
My grades have been a top priority ever since I was little.
Ever since I started my high school career, I have been getting straight A’s. Two years into high school, I haven’t really challenged myself to the best of my ability. As the junior year came by, I decided to challenge myself by taking my first AP class. Since then, I got my first B ever (and the last B I will ever get). Considering that it is still a decent grade, I still try my best to aim higher for an A.
To me, it was very fast-paced at first, but now I am slowly adjusting and becoming a better student by learning how to use my time management skills.
Leadership is one of the characteristics that mean a lot to me. This is important to me because I use this in my day-to-day life. I work with others by communicating as much as I can with them. If I ever see an individual down or unmotivated, I try to give them advice on how to enhance the situation or guide them into better circumstances.
As a leader, my goal is to uplift others and help them succeed to their best potential. Also being a good leader means being a good role model. This is very influential in my opinion because people will look up to you, not only that but by you being a good influence on them.
Another very important characteristic is to have some sort of service activities. I will always try to take action in my community to make the environment a better place. Recently, I volunteered at an Alzheimer’s walk with a friend of mine to help find a cure for Alzheimer’s disease. We were assigned to walk around and ask as many people as we can if they would like to sign up for Trial Match to help find a cure to Alzheimer’s disease, whether it’s in their genetics or not. That was an experience I will never forget because without communicating with them, we wouldn’t be one step closer to get the goal done. In total, we got thirty people to sign up! Sure that might seem like a little group of people, but most of the people that were there had already signed up which is great!
The abilities and skills that I have already mentioned have helped me develop the character I am today. This has helped me to meet the expectations of the National Honor Society to the fullest extent. I consider myself to have the six qualities that a person of a character has: respect, responsibility, trustworthiness, fairness, caring, and citizenship. I strongly believe I represent these qualities on an everyday basis. I will always show respect towards others and take action when I see something is not right by being honest in every situation I am in.
