Johnson & Johnson was founded in 1886 when three brothers, Robert Wood Johnson, James Wood Johnson, and Edward Mead Johnson combined their separate businesses into one medical product company. Robert was in the apothecary business, and James and Edward produced medical products. In 1887, the brothers entered the surgical dressing industry by founding Johnson & Johnson and made their company incorporated. They first began producing products such as plasters with medicinal compounds in the adhesive, a soft absorbent cotton and gauze.

They gained a good reputation in 1888, when they publish Modern Methods of Antiseptic Wound Treatment. Ever since the company began, it pursued diversification. In 1891, they formed their own bacteriology lab to better study the problems of airborne germs. Edward Johnson’s interest in childhood nutrition lead him to leave the company he and his brothers made and make his own company that concentrated on baby formula, Mead Johnson, in 1897. In 1919, James Johnson and Robert Johnson made their company go international and it expanded to Canada.

In the 1920’s Johnson & Johnson added consumer products to their business interest route. In the year of 1921, the Band-aid, Johnson’s Baby Cream, and many other products such as the Johnson and Johnson’s Baby Powder were created. They got their first European associate in 1924 to Great Britain. In 1931, they affiliated in Australia. To this day, they are affiliated with about 100 countries. In 1941, they formed a separate division for suture production and in 1944 they began trading stock.

Tylenol and other medicinal products were introduced in the 1960’s. There they planned a division for pharmaceuticals. Around the 1970’s they branched into women’s sanitary products and toiletries industry. Now they are also in biopharmaceuticals, orthopedic devices, and Internet publishing. In recent years, they purchased Pfizer’s Consumer Healthcare department. Johnson & Johnson is an American multinational company that deals with the pharmaceutical, medical device and diagnostics, and consumer healthcare industry.

Johnson & Johnson participates in a wide variety of healthcare. They are trying to achieve leadership in the areas of healthcare and beauty regiments and develop high quality and pioneering products and services for their consumers. This company markets to the public. There aren’t any limitation or factors for using Johnson and Johnson’s products and services. They have products and services that are unlimited in the pharmaceutical and beauty regiment industry. Johnson & Johnson is a very varied, diversified company.

They have more than 200 subsidiaries that put the title “Johnson & Johnson Family of Companies” on their products. Some subsidiaries include Baby Center, L. L. C. , Children with Diabetes, Inc. , HealthMedia, Johnson & Johnson Pharmaceutical Research & Development, L. L. C. , Ortho-Clinical Diagnostics, Inc. OCD, Penaten, Tibotec, and Veridex, L. L. C. These are just a few that are involved with this multinational company. Their products vary also. Johnson & Johnson care about their consumer’s health and beauty. They provide top of the line products and services for their consumers.

Some included are: Acuvue, Aveeno, Band-aid, Benadryl, Clean ; Clear, Cortaid, Desitin, First-Aid Kits (that was actually one of there first of many products), Immodium, Johnson ; Johnson Red Cross, K-Y, Johnson’s Baby, Listermint, Lubriderm, Monistat, Motrin, Motrin Children, Neosporin, Neutrogena, Pedicare, Pepcid, REACH, Rembrandt, Rogaine, Shower to Shower, Splenda, Stayfree, Sudafed, Tylenol, Tylenol Baby, Tylenol Children, Visine, and Zyrtec. These are just a few products and services I know, but there are so many more. In 2011 revenues at Johnson & Johnson totaled to $65. 0 billion US dollars.

The consumer division is located in Skillman, New Jersey. This corporation includes about 250 subsidiaries with operations all over the world. That includes 57 countries. Their products are sold in over 150 countries. Johnson & Johnson doesn’t have a mission statement that hangs in their front lobby of the headquarters in New Jersey. Instead they have a one-paged creed, ‘Our Credo’. It includes a guide of actions towards fulfilling their responsibilities to their customers, employees, the community, and their stockholders. From the start of the fiscal year to this recent day, the stock price ranged $57. 50-68. 05. On February 13, 2012, the stock price opened at $64. 90, and closed $64. 68.
