After Khan retired from the Cricket world he stayed in the public attention as a philanthropist. It was during this period he felt drawn to look deeply at the condition of Pakistan, but also in this time he executed some “some philosophical endeavors”. He also wrote one of his books, which he named Warrior Race: A Journey Through The Land Of The Tribal Pathans. In Pakistan, he had built a hospital (Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital) in 1994, this hospital had been built in memory of his mother who had passed away from cancer in 1985.

In 1995 he married his (then) wife Ms. Jemima Goldsmith. Imran Khan had “met with his mentor”, however, in his case his mentor came in the form of religion, and was not a person but rather a religious awakening. With this awakening he would have crossed the “first threshold”. He began to ponder deeply on what his purpose was in this world as well as what his fate would be in the afterlife, he turned to his religion Islam. He erased his “playboy” character and turned to politics. He began critiquing the government and its corruption. He founded his own personal party in 1996, and named it Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf, “Pakistan Justice Movement”. This step would have been the first of many more, from here he journeyed through falling, stumbling, getting up again, and fighting harder than he ever fought. During the elections of 1997 Khan did not win a seat in the National Assembly, his vote was less than one percent. He later earned a seat in the National Assembly, in 2002. His journey from then is spread out over the course of the next sixteen years. Many people were attacking his then wife Jemima Goldsmith because of her Jewish ancestry, they accused of him of “Zionist affiliations”, these accusations led Jemima to leave Pakistan which then led to their separation. Whilst officiating their divorce in court, the judge told Imran Khan, from Jemima’s property which held a value of around 12,000 pounds he was entitled to half of it. Khan said he didn’t need it want it. The judge was confused but “impressed”, he then asked Jemima as to the reason she didn’t want to live with “such a great personality”. She told the judge that the issue wasn’t Imran Khan, and she even enjoyed being his wife, but wanted him to stay with her in London because the political figures in Pakistan were falsely accusing her, and tarnishing her reputation. The judge then turned back to Khan and proceeded to ask why he didn't stay in London withAfridi3Jemima “who he considered a great woman and a great mother”, he replied that “he wanted to something great for his beloved Pakistan, because there’s a lot of poverty, illiteracy, injustice.”. The judge went on to ask about the custody of their children, Imran Khan responded that “Jemima is the best woman and a mother and wants the kids to be with her.” This astonished the judge who was amazed by Khan’s words, the divorce was very difficult for not only Khan but also for Jemima. The seat Imran Khan had won in 2002, he gave up in 2007. He was among some other politicians who gave up his seat to protest against the candidacy of ex-prime minister Pervez Musharraf. That November he was even incarcerated for a short time for his protesting. It was Musharraf who “declared a state of emergency” that had him arrested. Imran Khan did not take it lightly and protested against the “state of emergency” and chose to boycott the elections which had taken place in 2008.It began during 2012 when his party started to become more popular. In an opinion-poll that year, Imran Khan was found to be the “most popular political figure”. In May of 2013, he had fallen off a platform which injured his back and head, this was a matter of days before the election. This however didn’t stop him but rather made him stronger, he made his final appeal to voters from the hospital he was staying at. In the elections of 2013 he had the highest total in the history of his party, however the Muslim League Party-Nawaz lead by Nawaz Sharif won more than half of the seats. The polls were thought to have been rigged, Imran Khan wanted the matter to be investigated but was turned down. In 2014 he and opposition leaders protested against Nawaz Sharif in hopes that he would step down. The protests did not achieve their goal this, however, this caused suspicions of corruption, and the corruption had been confirmed when a news article from Panama Papers linked Nawaz Sharif to offshore holdings. Nawaz Sharif wasAfridi4forced to resign in 2017 because of an investigation that was opened in late 2016 that found him to be guilty.

In July of 2018, Khan was running in the election with the plan to finish and fight corruption and poverty, and was also fighting off accusations against him in relations to the military. During this period he had been constantly interviewed on his opinions on Nawaz Sharif along with former prime minister Zardari. He even says “People like Zardari and Nawaz should be not given another chance. How did they become so rich? They have looted the country. People will not spare them,” He emerged victorious and won the “plurality” in seats in the National Assembly. Imran Khan became prime minister on August 18th, 2018. Throughout his life’s work we see all twelve steps of the journey. As a hero he works towards the common goal of justice, fairness, the “healing” or “fixing” of society. Not only that but as a hero he inspire people. His struggles make him genuine but also he relates to his people. Khan is so popular because he doesn’t want to make a difference, rather his ideas and his forum wants to make the world different. This makes him a “true hero”. It is through these factors that it is concluded that Imran Khan himself follows the hero archetype so to say.
