Queen Elizabeth's speech

I, queen Elizabeth, have created a speech in 1588 to the British troops who fought in the battle of tilbury to motivate the soldiers to give it their all in the battlefield and die for our homeland, England. The text was solely for these troops, so they wouldn't give up on their deeds to protect our country.

I mentioned how essential the soldiers are by giving them a sense of importance to the country and how their deeds of fighting were appreciated and honourable.

In the speech, I do mention how I will be by their side in the war as I quote," I have placed my chiefest strength and safeguard in the loyal hearts and good will of my subjects; and therefore I am amongst you, as you see, at this time, not for my recreation and disport, but being resolved, in the midst and heat of battle, to live and die amongst you all; to lay down for my God, and for my kingdom, and my people, my honour and my blood, even in the dust.

This portion of the speech indicates how I am with the troops spiritually in their hearts while they fight on the battlefield. At the end I mention 'in the dust', which is referring to when they die, their honour will live on. By giving the troops motivation, it allows them to fight knowing they will be remembered and respected for their act, which is the whole purpose of the text.

As previously mentioned, the text was directly meant for the troops of tilbury, as the speech was given prior to the war.

In the speech, I inform the troops that I have full trust in them. Within the speech, I mention having the body of a weak, feeble woman but heart and stomach of a king. This means physically, I am incapable of fighting in the field, but my intentions as the leader of England are clear.

Also, I say, If anyone dares invade the boarders of my realm, I myself will take arms", which describes my dominance as a leader and how no other king shall attack our country of England, or I will take care of matters myself. Also, the brave soldiers will not only be honoured, but i will reward them for their high moral standards as I quote," I know already, for your forwardness you have deserved rewards and crowns". That instance is a reminder that they will be rewarded for economic and prominent matters if they have any concerns. This covers up the intended audience and their values as respectable soldiers.

The setting of the text was ought to be very serious and honourable which the target audience, the troops, would use as inspiration for their upcoming battle. The context initiates a sense of importance as it mentions how the troops are fighting for England as loyal citizens, rather than being forced to fight. This means the message is much more meaningful for the troops as they are to take the message personally as an act of gratitude.

This being the primary reason for being created in the first place, allowing the speech to have an important message directly to the troops. If the troops were forced to fight or didn't personally want to fight for their country, the speech would be meaningless as it focuses on the honour and loyalty which lies within the soldiers who are dying for their beloved country. When creating the speech, its important that I had known about the troops and what they were like to have an impact on them, because the creation of the text was purely for the troops as an inspirational and motivational reason to fight.
