The acquisition is recognized for a speed in which it takes place and requires some basic processes. A child starts using large numbers of vocabularies and expressions, even before attending school. In addition to the speed of the acquisition, children have the inherent ability to obtain language and this special capability is possessed by all newborn babies. No matter what language mother speaks, the baby will acquire the language of the surrounding in which the child is brought-up. So basically meaning a language is not genetically inherited but acquired.

The child should be able to send and receive sound signals in any language and to speak or understand a language a child must be able to hear the language and how it’s being used but in the case of deaf infant, they stop after six months. An experiment done by Moskowitz (1991) verified that deaf parents provided their son who was capable of hearing in contact with television or radio programs but the boy did not develop the capacity to speak or understand the English language.

Infants hear and acquire even before they start speaking and develop producing smiles and different range of crying styles.

Cooing

During the first few months, the baby is able to produce vowel sounds and as the baby reaches the age of four, their productivity of sound becomes for clear and it is also said that babies can hear the difference between vowels and know about syllables by the time they are five months.

Babbling

When the baby is about eight months, he/she starts sitting and is capable of producing different kinds of sounds as different combinations of it and this sound productivity is known as babbling. As the child starts to stand up holding to something, they are capable of uttering complex syllables and tend to imitate their surrounding people and self-experiencing the sounds of the language. The one-word stage and two0word stage also involves in this process.

Telegraphic Speech

When the baby is two years old, the kid is able to produce a large number of words and also learns to make a small sentence and the uses of them in the right order with few grammatical errors and as the age grows the child starts having a high vocabulary with clear build-up sentences and pronunciation. This point is considered important for the adults to provide a good influence to the child and in the development of the language.

Acquisition Process

The child starts developing a wide range of sounds as being taught the language. The child basically learns from the surrounding and observing the people and the type of language they use when they teach the child and their way of delivering them. The child tries many different kinds of sounds and adopt the speech they hear and waits for the responses to see if they are right though most of the time adults have to control their expression of sounds so that the child does not learn anything negative and all these help in the development of the language for the kids.

Learning Through Imitation

Imitation is the basic step kids follow to learn something like developing a speech through trying to repeat the same word or sound but not the sentence formation that is produced by some adults and kids have their own way of saying the words and understanding it.

Learning Through Correction

Kids learn the language through teaching them their mistakes in a sentence though they do not really understand it and still carry their own set of sentences and correction of the word by adults seems hopeless. The most important part of the acquisition process is the use of sounds and combination of words while interacting with someone else. Wordplay is something interesting way to teach the child the development of the words and sentences and soon it’s noticed that the child starts speaking uninterruptedly.

Conclusion

Every kid has the similarities of learning through imitation, creativity or productivity and predictions of their sounds. Vocabulary is acquired from the surrounding or the culture and the teaching of their parents in crucial time and it’s not genetic. The kids have the capacity to communicate without the mental grammar and they have the innate ability to produce speech sounds.
