How Nature Vs Nurture Work Together To Shape Human Behavior

Categories: Nature Versus Nurture

People have been asked about the way they learn things. This bring up the question as to whether we can learn things from nature or nurture. The two concepts play a big role in human development. Both nature and nurture work together to shape human behavior. However, it difficult to determine which one affects human development more.

Some people believe that our environment dictates who we are; that our environment nurtures our behavior and identity. Others believe that nature shapes us.

Those on the nature side assert that our inherited biology, such as our genetics, determines who we are. Someone might ask if personality is influenced by parents through genetics, or learned traits from the environment. According to the text, “culture is the behaviors, ideas, attitudes, values, and traditions shared by a group of people and transmitted from one generation to the next” . (What does this quote say about nature vs nurture though? Remember, according to the assignment description you need to discuss one example of nature from your own life and one example of nurture from your own life.

Then you want to link those experiences to concepts from your reading. So you need to discuss your experiences first, then refer to relevant concepts from the book that help explain your experiences). Now, things have changed due to the fact that we have been influenced by other cultures.

(Okay, so is this nurture then influencing this cultural change? Seems like it is but you need to be explicit. Also, after this example, what concepts from your reading help explain this cultural change you’ve noticed? You need another example from your life about nature followed by a reference to the course text).

In conclusion, the conversation about the influence of nature and nurture on human development is fascinating and both sides have valid points to justify their positions. Nature is based on the fact that genetic make-up influences how an individual behaves and thinks. People who believe in the power of nurture hold that environmental factors are the primary force involved in the developmental process of an individual. Today we know that who we are is a function of both nature and nurture. It is a complex interplay of these two things, and we can’t rarely separate the two when trying to explain different aspects of human development.
