General Mandible is a very extreme ant, and all he thinks about is the colony. Anything that the ants do should always be for the benefit of the colony, not for the benefit of individuals. This type of leadership that Mandible uses on his soldiers resembles more of a fascist government, as fascist governments are all about the state. General Mandible said this to his troops: “What matters is the colony.” What Mandible means by this is that whatever you do in your life, whether it be fighting or working, should always be for the benefit of the state.

This demonstrates a fascist type of government because Mandible wants his troops to focus on how the battle with the termites with benefit the state, no matter how many lives are lost in the process. Another example of how Mandible is a fascist is when he said “The life of an individual ant doesn’t matter. What matters is the colony. We live for the colony, we fight for the colony, and we die for the colony”.

Mandible also resembles a communist government in the way that he tries to create an equal society, but in doing so he stripped citizens rights away from them and imposed the autocratic rule. An example of this was the way Mandible had the ants working before Z had influenced them. He had them working the majority of the day, and they also didn’t have any days off.

The ants also didn’t have any personal property that belonged to them, as everything belonged to the state. Mandible resembles a communist government because the ants of the colony didn’t have any rights, and when they were told to do things by Mandible they did them without question. They weren't allowed to speak for themselves or do things that they wanted to, and if they did they would get ration cuts, as Azteca did when she spoke up for Weaver. They also didn’t have any personal property, as the tools and weapons that the ants used belonged to the state. The final type of government that General Mandible represents is a dictatorship. He resembles a dictatorship in the way that he has control over all parts of the colony, and he does things the way he likes without advice from others. Before Mandible dies, he said this to Z: “You useless, ungrateful maggot! I AM THE COLONY!”. This shows that Mandible resembles a dictatorship because he had all the power and control in the colony, and when he says “ I AM THE COLONY”, he states that he is the most important and vital person in the colony, and without him, the colony would descend into chaos. Mandible is an extreme and horrible leader, and he resembles many different types of government such as fascism, communism, and dictatorship.
