My review will be on the Encyclopaedia Britannica official website.
https://www.britannica.com/
The institution (Britannica) that owns the website employs up to 4,411authors. For the sake of this review I will just refer to the author of the website as the institution itself (Britannica).
The Britannica is a global educational publisher with products that promote knowledge and learning (such as the multivolume encyclopedias that have been a source of learning since 1768).
The Britannica collaborates with experts, scholars, educators, instructional designers, and user-experience specialists then subject their work to rigorous editorial review and combines it all into learning products that are useful, reliable, and enjoyable.
The Britannica is also deeply involved with schools, parents, and educators, designing products for the 21st-century classroom.
When analyzing the information that the Britannica provides and comparing it to the same information provided by other credible sources it can be inferred that the material the website provides is accurate.
When it comes to historical events and data, It doesn’t seem as if the information is biased, the data given is historically accurate and is given from a neutral point of view.
I personally do trust this website because it has never given me false information and based on its credentials and reputation I wouldn’t say that it has ever given me a reason not to trust it.
On Britannica’s official site’s homepage there are several types of hot links. There are links to different article categories within the site, to quizzes and lists, there’s also links to more wacky articles (rather than historical) such as “7 Puzzling Plane Disappearances” and “10 Inventions That Changed Your World”, and there’s links to trending articles and featured blogs as well.
One of the hot links on the Britannica website was an informative article on Hypatia; it was number one on the ‘Trending Articles’ section of the website’s homepage. The article the hot link led me to mostly consisted of who Hypatia was, what she accomplished during her lifetime, as well as some facts about her. Apparently she was the earliest female mathematician recorded in history and she was (in her time) the world’s leading mathematician and astronomer; the only woman for whom such a claim could be made.
I would most definitely recommend this site to other students because it has proven to be helpful to me time and time again when it comes to getting accurate and detailed historical information. The articles on the site give a general dictation of events while also highlighting some important specifics that could prove to be helpful during one’s research. Also, when using information provided to me by Britannica I have never once gotten points deducted for false or incorrect data.
The website, Encyclopedia Britannica, relates to our course because it contains various information on historical American events such as the american revolution, the civil war, the civil rights movement, the great depression, and much more. Since this course focuses on American history, information on events such as those will prove to be incredibly helpful throughout the rest of the year.
I learned many things from this site including who the first known female mathematician and astronomer was, where to find articles, and what kind of things their hot links sent me to. I also learned how credible the website officially is and that the website actually covers a lot of information and data for subjects that aren’t history. I also found out that the website, Britannica, kind of has fun learning tactics within it such as quizzes and lists of interesting things.
