Bullying is one of the most common and serious problems of our time. A number of students face bullying in all their psychological and physical forms. It can be defined as purposely negative words or actions by one or more students to repeatedly harm another student, located within or in schools, and the power between them is unequal. Bullying has begun to spread massively in recent times and while most bullying happens at school. A significant percentage also happens in places like on the playground or the bus.

It can also happen traveling to or from school, in the youth’s neighborhood, or on the Internet; as stated by stopbullying.gov. Furthermore, as an 8th grader student in Legg Middle School. I would like to persuade that Bullying comes in different levels, and if the victim feels aggressively violated then the bully should be held responsible. From here, I choose to discuss in this letter the methods of dealing with it, it’s causes, effects, types, and treatment.

Bullying damages people physically and mentally and It occurs in diverse forms. The most common types of Bullying are verbal, physical, relational, and cyberbullying. Verbal bullying is saying or writing means things, which cover Teasing, Name-calling, inappropriate sexual comments, insulting and threatening to cause harm. Physical bullying involves hurting a person’s body or possessions, consist of spitting, tripping/pushing, taking or breaking someone's things, hittingkickingpinching, and making mean or rude hand gestures. Relational bullying relates to hurting someone’s reputation or relationships and it implies to telling other children not to befriend with someone, spreading rumors about someone, embarrassing someone in public, and leaving someone out on purpose.

Cyberbullying uses technology and devices such as social networks to target someone purposely. It incorporates posting, sending, and sharing negative, false, harmful or mean content about someone else. And causes embarrassment or humiliation by sharing personal or private information too.

Truth is, Both types of bullying are equally harmful toward the victim. The Only difference is that scars left by physical bullying are visible where emotional bullying occurs mentally within the victim. Either way, Bullying is a horrible experience that can cause so much damage to a student. And Saying mean things to people or judge them because of who they are is not right and needs to stop. “Children and adolescents who are bullied are at increased risk for mental health problems, including depression, anxiety, headaches, and problems adjusting to school.” (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 364). The consequences result with the victim having mental health issues, low attendance, feels unsafe, trouble concentrating, and lose interest in schools. As unpleasant as it is, it Unfortunately occurs every day. Those bullies cannot be ignored and should be held responsible for their actions.

Dr. Dan Olweus, a research professor of psychology from Norway. And the creator of the Olweus Bullying Prevention Program provided us with the definition of bullying that is universally used today in schools, defined as "Bullying is when someone repeatedly and on purpose says or does mean or hurtful things to another person who has a hard time defending himself or herself.."
