Central Idea: My purpose with this topic is to demonstrate my disagreement in the use of animals for experiments.
(Attention): Many times we think that because we are human beings we have the freedom to make decisions that can cause the death of some animals. Animals also have the right to live.
(Reveal Topic): Today I would like to talk about a topic that causes me a lot of indignation. In my opinion with the advancement in technology and science today I do not think it is necessary to use captive animals to make laboratory tests and experiment with them.
(Relevancy): It is very significant for me because I am a person who loves and defends the rights of animals.
(Credibility) My experience on this topic is that my family and I have been supporting an organization called OIPA for a long time, which defends the rights of animals.
(Preview) Will it be right to take the life of a poor animal just to research?.
NO, it is not correct because animals have feelings and they suffer from everything they do to it.
For these reasons, we should not allow people to use animals to make experiments.
Transition: Let’s begin talking about all the types of tests they do to animals
[Main Point I: According to the website peta.org . Right now, millions of mice, rats, rabbits, primates, cats, dogs, and other animals are locked inside barren cages in laboratories across the country.
[Sub-point A: They languish in pain, suffer from extreme frustration, ache with loneliness, and long to be free.Instead, all they can do is sit and wait in fear of the next terrifying and painful procedure that will be performed on them.
The complete lack of environmental enrichment and the stress of their living situation cause some animals to develop neurotic types of behavior such as incessantly spinning in circles, rocking back and forth, pulling out their own fur, and even biting themselves.
More than 100 million animals suffer and die in the U.S. every year in cruel chemical, drug, food, and cosmetics tests as well. There are many examples of the tests that they realized with animals, one of those are included forcing mice and rats to inhale toxic fumes.
Another example is to forcing dogs to eat foods that are high in chemical levels to see their reactions.
Transition: Another Important reason is that the tests that are done on animals not only cause damage to them, but also to humans as well.
[Main Point II: Do you think we can trust that animals will have the same reaction as humans?
[Sub-point A: Not at all, a rat is not a human being and of course will react differently to how a person reacts to some medications. In my opinion, making human's lives better should not be justification for torturing and exploiting animals
[Sub-sub-point A: There are other methods and alternatives where you do not have to use animals for drug experiments.
[Main Point III]: Now in days with the advances in the technology, it is not necessary that they have animals in captivity to make them experiments when we have other alternatives.
Scientists were able to create 3D structures such as miniature human organs, which can provide a more realistic way to test new therapies.
2. Another way is by using human tissues. For example, on the website, crueltyfreeinternational.org mentions that human tissue can also be used after a person has died (e.g. post-mortems).
3. Post-mortem brain tissue has provided important leads to understanding brain regeneration and the effects of Multiple Sclerosis and Parkinson’s diseases.
Transition: For this and many more reasons is why I am against the use of animals for laboratory
In conclusion, I am very against in animal experiments it is an abuse of animals. They make them suffer and mistreat them to the point that causes death.
