An Introduction to the Analysis of the Modern Society Schools

Categories: Schools Build Society

In the modern society schools have taken the largest part of responsibility in producing adults ready to face the dangers and difficulties of life. But the role of the family has not been minimized, on the contrary the role of the family in the modern world, in producing not only responsible adults but also adults that have the ability to rely on their powers and a high degree of self regard, is probably greater than any other time.

To begin with, it appears to that responsibility is not the result of maturity, it is the cause of it and a major role of the family is to teach responsibility to children.

Seemingly, parents by teaching to their children how to take initiatives and by including them in all aspects of family life, help them to build a sense of responsibility which it will be very helpful for their adult life. In their book Teaching our children responsibility, Linda and Richard Eyre write: Building a sense of responsibility in our children by including them in all aspects of family life is the best way to teach the importance of group participation and essential negotiation and cooperation skills.

Also according to a 1988 study by Dr. Joseph Flaherty: overprotected students ... reported low self-esteem, dependency, and rigidity... On the other hand, those students who said their parents supported them emotionally and had encouraged them to be independent showed signs of high self-esteem and intellectual flexibility.

In conclusion, it seems to that family has a major role in producing responsible and autonomous adults. Adults that are masters of their own psychological destinies, who possess a high self-regard and a clear vision of who they are, how they fit into the human community, and what they want to accomplish with their lives.
