What Causes People To Hate Through The Tell-Tale Heart Story

What causes people to hate? Is it because they’re afraid of not getting loved back? Or is it because of an underlying factor based upon the an individual?

Hate can be caused by a variety of different things. Such as jealousy difference between people, financial differences and mental illness. Poe uses details of the story to explain a psychological mystery. Poe explains that sometimes people harm those who they love or need the most in their life.

The narrator loves the old man. He is not greedy for the old man’s wealth, or envious of him in anyway. As a result of the love for the old man this eliminates the motives for the narrator to have a violet persona when murdering the old man. When the narrator explains his own sanity, at the same time the narrator is fixated on the old man’s.

vulture eye. The narrator believes that the man carries guilt and the guilt attributes to the eye itself. Throughout the story narrator fails to notice that the eye is the “I” of the old man. He does not see the “eye” is an inherent part of the old man’s identity and that cannot be taken away. When the narrator kills the old man, this illustrates how the narrator wants to separate the old man’s identity from his physical eye. When the narrator sees the eye as completely separate from the man, he is now capable of murdering him while maintaining that he loves him.

The balance between love and hate is critical during this point. The narrator’s desire to “kills” the man’s eye motivates his murder, but at the same time the narrator is unaware the that this act will end the man’s life. The narrator then dismembers his victim. By the narrator dismembering the old man further deprives the old man of his own humanity and illustrates the narrators love hate relationship for the old man. When the narrator cuts the old man into pieces and puts him under the floor further confirms his understanding of the old man’s eye as a separate entity from the man’s identity. I believe that the emotions of the narrator are unstable, and he is simply crazy. His hatred for the eye and the old man is fueled by his mental instability. When the narrator hears the heartbeat getting louder and louder simply shows that he is insane because there is no possible way for a dead man’s heart to beat.

Hatred can be fueled by a variety of different reasons, but in Tell-Tale Heart the hate is simply fueled from mental illness and misalignment within the narrator’s emotions.
