Unfortunately for everybody who wishes for world-wide peace through a policy of shared integrity and fairness, there is no set standard for what qualifies as honest, or, for that matter, fair. Societies all throughout history have lived with incredibly different moral codes, with different consequences for violating said codes. The Church of Jesus Christ, on the other hand, bases honesty on heavenly principles. Our current society keeps its definition of honesty very basic: don't lie, don't steal, and don't break the law.
Bending the rules may be frowned upon, but it's not necessarily dishonest.
People get away with ruining the lives of others simply because what they've done isn't illegal.
The problem is that this doesn't foster any love between fellow men, so most people remain concerned with their own wellbeing and don't consider their neighbor's. It's an attitude of entitlement that has become increasingly obvious with the rising generation, and which is in direct contrast to the idea of spiritual honesty, because it hurts us spiritually when we don't do the morally right thing just because society says we don't have to.
To me, honesty based off of religion means that you live your life the way Christ wants you to.

Not only is your communication clear and direct, but you treat everyone with the respect that children of God deserve, and you do everything you can to help those around you with all the resources you have been blessed with because you know they belong to God. It's not enough to just go through the motions of being "Christian"—that's spiritual dishonesty and gets us nowhere.
We must be putting in all our best efforts to make it to the Celestial Kingdom and to help our fellow men get there as well.
