The term “role” implies the importance an analogy plays in a situation, “analogy” implies a device that compares two things to further explain a theory or feelings, “aid understanding” suggests helping a person comprehend what is being compared, and lastly “provide justification” suggests to prove or confirm a theory or feeling.

An analogy highlights the thought that two theories are the same in an underlying nature. It is an effective process in which the understanding of a concept is promoted by identifying the similarities within the two analogies. Hence, this allows for the interpretation and information to be shifted between the two in order to introduce a new aspect of the theory.

Discoveries are made on a daily basis, scientists and philosophers continue to design methods, and theories which must be first understood in order for it to become a formal concept that is taught to society.

This can further be displayed with the human body. The human body is a complicated system which entails a range of microscopic cells to vast organs. Becoming educated on a certain topic, in this case the human body, allows for the brain to analyze a variety of situations and act accordingly.

The concept is difficult to understand when you are first introduced to it. Enzymes are part of a chemical reaction which is crucial for a human body to function and live. Each enzyme must locate its specific substrate in order to advance in the chemical reaction taking place. The analogy of a key fitting a lock, is used to help students understand the process in a sufficient manner. In this case, the enzyme is they key and the substrate is the lock which must fit. In order for a door to unlock, the right key has to be inserted otherwise the door will be prevented from opening which defeats the entire purpose.

Likewise, each enzyme with clasp with a specific substrate, as the size and shape of the enzyme receptor corresponds to the desired enzyme site. This analogy, is known as the “induced fit theory”, it allows for students to make connections about what they just learned to further pursue knowledge. Students can use the information given to explore the idea of how certain inhibitors fit the enzyme site but no reaction occurs.
