Food insecurity is a major issue in the third world countries that lack a stable system of government to provide storage and maintain a constant supply. Over the years, the food industry and the world organizations have failed to devise interventions to help in the adequate planning and budgeting of food policies. Many countries in their effort to increase their food supplies through trade liberalization and globalization of agriculture have contributed to the escalating rates of food insecurity in other countries.
Farmers realize poor productivity and declining quantities, which reflects the deficit that the country is portended to face.
Rodgers (2 008) defines food security as the collective process of providing adequate, safe, and healthy foods for the consumers. Despite the market changes and other contributing factors such as the level of economy, each government has the mandate of ensuring that its citizens have access to adequate supply of food. The G7 countries in control of the international organizations such the World Bank, International Monetary Fund (IMF), and the World Trade Organization ( WTO) have failed to implement interactive solutions to help in the determination of solutions to food insecurity.
The effect of food insecurity is spreading to other countries in the world with cases of malnutrition and poor market trends identified in other countries such as the Arab countries. However, the responsibility comes down to individual countries that are being affected by food insecurity. To curb the increasing rate of malnutrition, the governments and the international organizations have to devise a policy to help in the management of food supplies as they monitor the economic trends to ensure that they have the capability to beat the calamity.
In the United States, food insecurity has been defined to relate to the inability of the public to access quality foods.
The minority communities are the most affected by the issue, which leads to the escalating rates of physical, social, and psychological complications among the victims. Therefore, the government can establish systems that will increase the supply of quality foods to these areas. The minority communities consume fast foods that are not beneficial to the body leading to the development of other diseases such as obesity and overweight. The markets in these areas can be redeveloped to provide the community with quality foods and access to other resources that they need. The price of acquiring these foods in the different markets is also an issue of concern. High prices prompt people to settle for cheap foods, which are poor in nutritious elements that help boost body health (Grant, 2012).
Even with the amount of food increased in these areas, if the prices are still high the solution will not be effective. Therefore, the amount of acquiring food should be reduced to increase access.
The government should also invest on infrastructure to these areas. The natural supplies and healthy foods are perishable if not stored well. The standard processes of transportation and storage should be increased with representatives of the government tasked with evaluating the trends in different markets and implementing policies to change these trends. The government also has the mandate of improving the nutrition of its citizens. With the food access and production processes addressed, people are to consume these foods with a monitored diet to ensure that the interventions implemented they are efficient in solving the problem of food security.
The government also has to increase agriculture in the country with support in terms of funds and sustainable processes to boost the operations of the farmers. Agriculture should be encouraged within the country to help in the production of natural foods and other produce that are raw materials for other products. Similarly, the government should promote diversity in the agriculture sector for all the farmers to help in the production of a large variety of foods in the country (Cargill Incorporated, 2014).
The implementation of these solutions is solely based on the efforts made by the policy makers. However, working in conjunction with the government and the state governments, a number of changes should be implemented. The incentives for farmers should be increased from time to time to promote agriculture in the country. Farmers' productions are low owing to the poor government incentives and the competition that genetically modified foods have brought. As a result, the natural, nutritious foods are replaced by genetically modified foods that are not healthy for the consumers.
Additionally, the government can also increase the market approaches and the prices of goods in the markets to increase access to the market goods and products. The markets can be given an allowance to improve on innovation processes that can improve the purchase of goods and the constant flow of healthy foods. Practitioners' efforts should be increased in the markets to help identify areas that need changes and the systems that will help restore the natural flow of foods in the markets. The government through policy makers and administrators can develop social enterprises and increase partnership levels that seek to increase the living standards in the local markets. Each market is given an opportunity to develop their own system of operation based on the markets history and the resources at their disposal.
