The On Cristiano Ronaldo

Juventus (also known as Juve and the Old Lady) star Paulo Dybala, nicknamed “La Joya” (“The Jewel”) is at the top of the wishlist among some of the grandest teams across Europe. Manchester United and their Premier League rivals Manchester City, along with Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain, and allegedly Barcelona and Real Madrid, have all expressed interest in the accomplished and versatile attacker. The 25-year old Argentine has won every Serie A title since he moved from Palermo in 2015 and has amassed 76 goals in 5 seasons with Juventus; and in his second, went to the finals of the Champions League against three-time reigning champions Real Madrid.

Therefore, it’s not a surprise that Juventus isn’t keen on relinquishing La Joya unless they get at least the proper, £90 million compensation for him.

A hefty price that even the European powerhouses are hesitant to make. Any offer by Manchester United would have to break their record transfer fee of £89 million for Paul Pogba in 2016. Likewise, Manchester City would have to break their record transfer fee of £60 million for Riyad Mahrez in the summer of 2018 in order to secure the Argentine marksman.

Bayern Munich’s CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge stated back in 2017, that Dybala is a talent he’d love to see on the German roster, but his cost might be a good enough deterrent for a club with a more conservative transfer history.

In addition, the German pursuit of Dybala has sublimed given the reassurance that striker Robert Lewandowski will remain at Bayern and is in no need of a replacement.

Offers have been made but none have been accepted by the Old Lady. Despite the multiple declinations, according to Tuttosport, Juventus have been in discussions with Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) surrounding an exchange of Kylian Mbappé for Dybala. The objective of Juve, as said by president Andrea Agnelli, is to sign “a 25-year-old CR7”, a world-class player at the peak of his career; but after the signing of Ronaldo for £101 million, Juventus are in no economic position to pay top dollar for another top player.

But because Mbappé does not have a large signing bonus nor large sponsorships, Juventus are prepared to sacrifice Dybala in order to sign the 2018 World Cup Winner this upcoming summer if they can. An unlikely exchange simply because of the La Joya’s incredible price tag. PSG would have to dig deep into their vaults once more to cover a £90 million transfer fee after recently signing Brazilian striker Neymar Jr. for a world record cost of £200 million in 2017. The summer of 2018 saw another pivotal transfer in the form of Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo, who displaced Dybala, a left footed player, from left winger to right and has limited his goal scoring to a mere seven so far this season. The arrival of Ronaldo, arguably one of the greatest attackers of this generation (and of all time), has strengthened Juventus’ offensive potential considerably alongside the prolific Croatian striker Mario Mandzukic.

A potential that has been realized in the strong and evident chemistry between the two; which would make any decision to separate or keep them off the field a mistake, a mistake team manager Max Allegri would not make. But this has resulted in less playing time for Dybala which makes Palermo owner Maurizio Zamparini think he will leave the club in January and accept offers elsewhere. Given that Juventus are also looking to secure at least £90 million and Dybala wants more time on the field, it’s not an unrealistic possibility that he may or may not leave Turin. Nonetheless, Dybala is still scoring despite being on his weaker side and if La Joya can create scoring opportunities from the outfield that Ronaldo and Mandzukic can capitalize on, Juve’s presently impressive offense can become increasingly more dangerous regardless if Dybala is scoring goals himself.

The Argentine has said that although he wants to win big tournaments like the Champions League, which Juve are in good chance to do with Ronaldo, he wants to win more domestic Serie A titles. Turin has proved to become the home of La Joya, the very atmosphere is parental. Ronaldo has even made it clear that there is a distinction between Real Madrid and Juventus, describing Juventus as 'more of a family' than Real Madrid and has even gone on to praise the humility of his new teammates. Dybala’s worth at Juventus has increased almost 4 times his original amount since he was signed at £29 million from Palermo in 2015 and now only time will tell the future of La Joya but it seems that it may shine brightest at home in Turin.
