The Implications of Social Cognitive Theory for Security Guard Program

Categories: Theory

Conditioning Theory means positive and negative reinforcement about the person’s behavior.Social cognitive Theory means learning through the social environment. For instance, observe others behavior how they work and their consequences. Next part is self-efficacy which means judgments that people have about their ability to successfully perform a specific task. The third component of the social cognitive theory is self-regulation, involves managing one’s own behavior through a series of internal process.

Both theories are implemented on the security guard training: Firstly, the trainer uses the conditioning theory because when he/she use this theory trainee become knowledgeable about their performance.

The trainer should use positive reinforcement and negative reinforcement methods to encourage the trainee performance.

Positive reinforcement: - In this method, if trainee performs good, the trainer should give his/her positive feedback and appreciate for the good performance. Through this trainee try to more improve their performance.

Negative reinforcement - this method put the very good impact on the security guard training program.

If a trainee is not performing good than trainer should give them negative feedback and repeat the same step until trainee become master of that step if the trainee is doing wrong again and again so trainer should give them a punishment so that he/she can learn more and learn an accurate way through this method.

According to us, a social cognitive theory is very significant for the security guard training program and it has three parts:

  1. Observation
  2. Self-efficacy
  3. Self-regulation.

When teacher or trainer provides the training to the trainee, he/she should provide the opportunities to the trainee to observe the other security guards behavior.

Provide occasion learn through from others behavior who are already master in their job. Through this trainee learn how they use their equipment and tools, how they provide first aid on their duty etc.

Self-efficacy has another significant part of training so that trainee can know about their capability how much they have to perform the task, if he/she is not capable to do a task, when he/she know that and he/she try to improve their performance and meet the training requirements.

Self-regulation is also very impactful for the security guard training, through this trainee manage their internal process. He/she try to regulate their internal process and he/she manage how to use their equipment, how to use their mind on their workplace. In the end, we conclude that both theories are very useful for security guard training. Both theories manage the trainee’s behavior and through these trainees better know about their self, how much strength they have or how much weakness he/she has and how to remove that weakness.
