Should College Education Be Free?

Education should be free, In the modern world, education plays a great role in developing people’s knowledge. education imparts special knowledge to students and helps them to hone their skills in their field of interest. Therefore, further education should be provided to students free of cost. However, in developed countries with a large population and underdeveloped countries that are poor, this idea will not be feasible. In my opinion, I will argue that education should not be free for everyone.

Firstly, we will look at quality, function, and job opportunities from education to prove this type of education should not be free to anyone.

In general, the main disadvantage of free education is job opportunities. In recent years, there has been a rapid rise in the number of graduates. However, most students find their jobs which do not need to require a degree. In addition to this, several students get a bachelor’s degree or master’s degree, but they have difficulties finding a job that is suitable for their study.

A study by the ONS found that nearly 50% of workers who left university in the past five years are doing jobs that do not require a degree (Pettinger 2015). Furthermore, almost half of recent university leavers are working in non- graduate jobs, as those with media studies degree fare the worst. According to the Office for National Statistics (2014) found that 47 percent of employed workers who left university within the last five years are performing parts that do not require education qualification.

This figure is up from 37 percent in 2001, with most of rising occurring since the recession of 2009.

The finding will show that the united states recovering economy is based on kinds of elements such as skill, income, class, social role. Therefore, there is a mistake to continue to fund the expansion of education because the economy does not need more graduates as much as other skills Secondly, the second disadvantage of free education is the signaling function of education. Signaling function is associated with shifts in demand and supply curves (Economic online 2014) It is said that education acts as a signal to employers that graduates have greater capacity. It means that when people get a degree, so they get a good job and a high salary. Signaling in education suggests productivity is independent of education, but education acts as a credential for higher ability. However, education might not actually increase our labor productivity, but only show us have the capacity to be able to be an employee. For example, a degree in ancient Greek may never use in your job as an account. In this case, the only function of education is signaling our ability. As a report by Richard Blundell and colleagues (2000) suggest some reasons education may have mailed a signaling function that “University dropouts earn less than students with just A level”. In theory, dropouts should earn more because they have more years of education. However, a drop out may signal poor ability to employers”. If education is a signaling function, this would suggest an expansion of education is not justified and put more funds into shorter, more practical vocational training than a three-year degree. Moreover, if education were 100% signaling, there would be a justification for taxing education. Therefore, if they financially gain from studying, it is perhaps fair they pay part of the cost.

Thirdly, the last disadvantage of free education is higher quality education. According to the web research (2012) defines it as is one that provides all learners with capabilities, they require to become economically productive, develop sustainable livelihoods, contribute to peaceful and democratic societies, and enhance individual well-being. The learning outcome that is required varies according to context but at the end of the basic education, the cycle must include threshold levels of literacy and numeracy, basic scientific knowledge, and life skills including awareness and prevention of disease. Capacity development to improve the quality of teachers and other education stakeholders are crucial throughout this process. the number of students has been rapidly increasing. It means that a big of pressure is being put on school resources. If schools can charge students, it will help maintain standards, quality of teaching, and the reputation of education. In fact, some study has shown that (Economics help 2018) the proportion of students is 18 years old account for 50 %. This figure increases in student numbers is an important factor in the increased financial pressures on schools. As a result, when the school is pressed on increasing finance, they are not enough money to invest in setting up and developing modern facilities, improving the expertise level of teacher groups.
Therefore, it influences not only learners but also the quality of education It is undeniable that education is an essential factor in developing people's culture. It is said that many people could get some benefits from free education, but others do not think that. This argumentation has shown that education should not be free for everyone because education provides a great value of knowledge for people. Consequently, education is the wings which help human to achieve dreams about scientific knowledge Referencing.
