Remembering An Event Or My Favorite Christmas Memory

I have many memories throughout my life that are very special to me. Nevertheless, so far the one and only memory that never fails to put a smile on my face is a Christmas memory. Although I have had many great holiday memories, my favorite Christmas memory was my sophomore year in high school.

Traditionally, during the holidays my family would travel to Chicago, Illinois to visit our family. This was always my favorite time of the year. I could not wait to see my family who lived up there.

We always do all sorts of Christmas activities. Activities like attending different Christmas events in town and most importantly spending time with each other. One holiday tradition that my family always does is opening one of your presents however many days early as you are in age. It was my sophomore year of high school, and the fourth year of not being able to see my friends and family back home in Illinois.

I was sixteen that year, therefore I was only allowed to open one present sixteen days before Christmas.

Considering that my parents and I used to live there in Chicago, Illinois, I would also get to see some of my old friends that I grew up with. One friend in particular, James Miller, is who I claim to be one of my closest friends that I ever had. I met James at a trampoline park during the summer after my second grade year. After the meeting, we became friends instantly.

He and I have many things in common, and most importantly, we like just about all the same things. I have always cherished moments when I got to visit him. So, when my parents told me the news that we were not going to be able to go for Christmas that year, I was destroyed inside. Christmas was the only time that I got to hang out with James. My parents said that it became too far to drive, and too expensive to fly. As crazy as it sounds, I think my heart was suddenly taken away from me. The home-bound Christmas holidays went on for four years. It was heart-breaking not being able to spend time with my best friend.

Meanwhile, it was time to open my present sixteen days early. We were all sitting in the living room, when I looked over and saw that my parents had given a present for me to open this time. It was a bright green envelope that had ribbons on it. I bent and shook it a little in hoping to figure out what it could be. It was very thin, so I was not able to figure it out. I untied the ribbons and opened the envelope. Inside there was a piece of paper. While sliding it out, I first noticed that it was an airline ticket. I proceeded to read the ticket to myself. My parents were letting me fly to Memphis. This meant that I could definitely get to see my family and of course James! Ecstatic, I ran to hug both of my parents. I did not know if it was real or not. As it got closer to Christmas, I became more excited and a bit nervous.

Finally, the day came, and I loaded up and headed to the airport. The plane ride was only a few hours, yet it felt like forever. Once the plane landed, I ran for the exit to find my grandparents, and James. I walked off and went down to the baggage area. There was a crowd of people traveling for the holidays, and an even bigger rush. Attempting to ignore the crowd of people, I looked around, then saw a very familiar sweatshirt belonging to none other than my best friend James. Both of our faces were in shock as we both grew slimes. I rushed over to my James and my family. They all smothered me with a one giant hug. I could not believe this was happening! I was so happy that I actually began to tear up a bit. It was already a better present than clothes or electronics that a person could think of. That night consisted of conversations of how we have all been doing for the past years. James got to spend the night with me at my grandparents’ house just like old times, enabling us to wake up the next morning and go spend time together like old times.

The present that I got from my parents that year was the best present I could ever ask for. It was one that changed my life by helping me develop and mature as a person and I really gpint to remember this event forever . It made me realize do not take things for granted, and to appreciate those precious moments while you still can. It taught me that life is short, so live it to the fullest with no regrets.
