In Jane Austen's novel "Pride and Prejudice", the character of Elizabeth Bennet, commonly referred to as Lizzy, forms a rash and negative first impression of Mr. Darcy, one of the central romantic interests of the novel. There are several factors that contribute to Lizzy's negative perception of Darcy. One of the primary reasons is his initial aloofness and arrogance. When Darcy first arrives at an assembly in Meryton, he is perceived as haughty and dismissive of everyone around him, including Lizzy. He refuses to dance with her and is overheard making derogatory comments about her, which only serves to further reinforce her already unfavorable opinion of him. Additionally, his wealthy and aristocratic background contrasts with her own one.
