Why did Baba lie about Hassan being his son?

In the novel "The Kite Runner" by Khaled Hosseini, Baba lied about Hassan being his son to protect his friend Ali's honor. Baba had an affair with Ali's wife, Sanaubar, which resulted in Hassan's birth. However, Baba was ashamed of his actions and did not want to publicly acknowledge his infidelity and the fact that he had a child with another woman. To avoid causing any harm to Ali's reputation and to protect his own image as a respectable member of society, Baba chose to keep the truth hidden and to raise Hassan as his servant rather than his son.
