In Homer's epic poem The Odyssey, Cyclops is a one-eyed giant who captures Odysseus and his men and eats some of them. When Odysseus blinds him and escapes, Cyclops asks his father Poseidon to interfere with Odysseus's journey home out of revenge. Cyclops believes that by doing so, he can prevent Odysseus from ever reaching his home, and he will never have to face the consequences of his actions.
