How long was Odysseus on Calypso's island?

According to Homer's epic poem, The Odyssey, Odysseus was on Calypso's island for seven years. Calypso was a nymph who lived on the island of Ogygia, and she held Odysseus captive there, promising him immortality if he would stay with her. However, Odysseus longed to return to his wife, Penelope, and his home in Ithaca. With the help of the goddess Athena, he was eventually able to leave Calypso's island and continue his journey home.
