Calypso is a character in Greek mythology and is best known for her role in Homer’s epic poem, The Odyssey. She is a nymph who lives on the island of Ogygia and holds the hero Odysseus captive for seven years, promising him immortality and eternal youth if he stays with her. Calypso is often seen as a symbol of temptation and a barrier to Odysseus’ return home.
