Bangalore is often referred to as the country ‘Garden City’, due to its high concentration of parks and green spaces. Bangalore is India’s 5th largest city and the momentum of its industrial and commercial growth unequalled in the country. The city offers itself as an ideal base to explore the fascinating and culturally rich state of Karnataka. The name Bangalore encompass so many sobriquets like Garden City, Silicon Valley of India, Pub City and so on. This sprawling city is indeed a garden city with a vast expansion of lovely gardens and parks. One of the prettiest cities in India, Bangalore is bestowed with the marvels of nature at its best. Bangalore, as we know it today, was formed by Kempe Gowda. Formerly, Bangalore was ruled by a number of rulers and dynasties, including the Vijayanagara Empire and Tipu Sultan.

The city was sold to the rulers in Mysore in the earlier days and was later in the hands of the British whose rule continued till Independence. A number of temples and monuments which were built in the earlier days are still seen in the city. Major towns and subdivisions were formed during various rules. There are a number of places in Bangalore that are worth visiting, including gardens, museums, palaces, temples, etc. One of the major attractions of the city is the Vidhana Soudha, the State Secretariat, adorned with delicate Dravidian architecture.

For the nature lovers, there is the famous Cubbon Park, stretching over an area of 250 acres.

The Fort and Palace of Tipu Sultan :

This fort constituted the stronghold of Hyder Ali and later his son Tipu Sultan, witnessing several fierce and bloody battles during their times. A fascinating example of 18th century Indian military architecture.The fort was last used for military purposes as recently as 1888.

Lal Bagh:

The park is also well-known for the flower show that takes place annually. It is a botanical garden in Bangalore that houses more than 1000 species of flowers and plants. The park also has a Glass House that is built on the lines of the London’s Crystal Palace. It is used to hold horticultural shows for its visitors.

Bangalore Palace:

It is a beautiful replica of the Windsor Castle in England built in 1862. Known for its exquisitely carved out towers and parapets this palace today serves as a venue for functions and marriages.

Ulsoor Lake :

A picturesque lake withe several tree-shaded islands in it, ideal for picnicking. Boating facilities are available and there is a beautiful swimming pool that is part of the recreational complex near the lake.

Karnataka Folk Museum:

It is located at Kumara Park West, Sheshadripuram. The Karnataka Janapadha trust manages this museum where many rare masks, artifacts and costumes are displayed. It also boasts of an impressive collection of folk music and videos of folk dances.

Temples :

The Venkataramanaswamy Temple, the Gavi Gangadhareswara cave temple, and the Someshwara Temple are other important temples of this city. The 16th-century, Dravidian-styled temple dedicated to Nandi, the Bull is an important place of worship.

Air:

Regular flights operate from Bangalore to Calcutta, Bombay, Delhi, Chennai, Hyderabad, Trivandrum, Panaji, Kochi etc. The airport is 6km from the city center.

Rail :

Bangalore has two railway stations, the Banglore City and Banglore Cantt. The major trains from and to Banglore terminate & start from the city station. Banglore is well connected to all the major towns of India.

Road:

The Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) buses and goa roadways operate here. Bangalore has very good motorable roads to various parts of the state. Some of the bus services are also serving the adjoining states.
