A piece of original writing regarding 'the future'

The rain was hammering the gravel surface, the lightening struck and the sky exploded into a ball of fire, the thunder replied and the Earth roared as the ground shook. In a night like this blood is spilt.

In the distance was an incongruous figure lurking behind the black, burnt tree situated on the side of a motionless road. A tall, slim and wealthy lady came quickly running and she caught the swift movement in front of her. She stopped. She quickly observed the road and she became immensely anxious at what she saw next.

She jolted and her face became pale as ice and her heart was beating like a drum now as a short, stout man with a vicious looking face who had sharp shimmering blades floating in mid air came closer and closer and closer....

'Dad, there's a letter for me,' shouted Ivan. He brought the letter to his father and waited in anticipation to see the content of the letter.

His father named Jack Dolton was a corpulent figure with a double chin and round face. He was an intermittent drunkard and always had to attend the pub as it became his daily routine at 9pm.

'Well dad, what is it?' Ivan ejaculated.

'Calm down, patience is a virtue,' he slowly ripped open the brown envelope and slowly took out a pink coloured sheet of paper. He quickly read the letter and his facial expression changed dramatically, he looked perplexed as his forehead scrunched up and his head jolted backwards in shock.

'It seems my dear boy that you are required for a few scientific tests which will be held at the Government institution situated in London. Hmmmm. I have seldom heard of this, but do not be afraid I shall be in touch with my people who work within the Government.' Ivan seemed thrilled with the idea of being used for a scientific test and immediately began to act frantically when suddenly a shiny metallic door opened and a silver widescreen flat screen Television appeared in front of them which had switched on automatically.

'Newsflash, Newsflash...... A lady has just been found murdered. She has not been identified yet, but we know a sharp object was used to slash her in the face and she was in terrible shock.' The Television then switched off and the doors slowly shut.

'What a start to the day, your curious invitation to the institution for some tests and now a lady being murdered,' stated Jack Dolton. He left the dining table shaking his head while Ivan hurried of to school.

The day arrived where Ivan had to attend the institution in London for some scientific tests. It was a remote place, which was guarded by two plump figures who wore silky Armani suits, one beside each door of the building. Jack Dolton entered first followed by his son; it was a large room with marble floor and had portraits of all the rulers of the world at the current time. Ivan ran with eagerness to the reception where a lady of forty glared at him with a perpetual frozen straight mouth. Ivan being intimidated hid behind his fathers' cloak who spoke conceitedly to the receptionist.

'I am here on behalf of my son,' Jack Dolton exclaimed, with his face upwards.

'Name,' ejaculated the receptionist.

'Jack Dolton.'

'Take a seat in the waiting area through those doors,' she said, confidently and quickly.

Ivan began to feel nervous now as he sat down in the vacant waiting area. A few minutes later a tall, thin man entered the room, he had penetrating eyes and metallic square fingers, which terrified Ivan immensely. His father stood instantaneously, but was immediately told to remain seated and asked Ivan to follow him to a large vacant room which had an isolated room situated in the middle of the room and had transparent walls. They entered the room which contained many instrumental implements and had a solid strip of aluminium metal supported by four legs where Ivan was demanded to lie down on....

A few hours had passed and an impatient Jack Dolton was pacing up and down the room.

'Finally, what took you so long,' said Jack Dolton out of breath. Ivan was not accompanied by the scientist, instead, he walked through the doors alone and looked weary and somnolent and wanted to fall asleep instantly.

'God lord, what happened to you,' spluttered Jack Dolton. He quickly lifted him in his arms and rushed out of the building.

A few weeks had passed after Ivan was used for scientific test and his father's concern grew by the day as Ivan became less active every minute. He was now lying in bed gazing out of the window watching the sun rise from the East and set in the West, his mouth always open trying to speak, but no word would come out. The medicine given to him had devastating side affects; he had yellow and black semi circular balls popping out of his forehead looking like dandelions in an open field, only this was depressing, painful and worrying. Throughout the past two weeks he had grown immensely while he was dead to the world. The most worrying aspect which concerned most of his family and friends was the fact that his hands and body were changing, his bones became stronger and his hands reflected more light which allowed them to be more 'shiny.' Jack Dolton had given up,

'I assure you Brenda, I will use my power to find out as much as possible what happened in that room in the Government Institution,' he shouted as he left the house. Brenda Dolton replied quickly,

'Huh, power as he always says,' she muttered to herself as she walked towards Ivan's bedroom.

'Brendaaaaaaaa, I've got it,' Jack Dolton sounded very pleased but when Brenda attended to him she was mistaken. His eyes were wide open and his forehead was scrunched up as ever and he looked astounded.

'What I am about to inform you will put you closer to your death bed then ever before,' stated Jack Dolton gravely. Mrs Dolton looked confounded.

'My contacts within the Government have told me that our son has been used for conducive tests as they say. However, their understanding of conducive in this situation is a very different one.

'What do you mean' ejaculated Brenda.

'They said that Ivan, our only son, was used to try out the latest research. In addition, they have warned me that serious side affects may occur if this research is not correct.' Brenda Dolton was now frozen with her hand to her mouth.

'They have told me that our son is not the only boy, there have been several adults and one of them has survived but as a result he is now a different person. They say he has blades growing at the tips of his fingers. And is now a threat to society. Therefore, they have already started investigations to 'hunt' down this creature. Lastly, they said that this process of trying out research on humans started when World War 3 ended. They decided that animals were not the right creatures and it would not give them positive results.' Jack Dolton's wife was speechless. They both stood there frozen for a couple of minutes when suddenly the peace was broken,

'Did you tell them that our son is experiencing these effects,' muttered Brenda in a calm voice.

'Yes I did,' Jack Dolton answered. Brenda fainted to the floor.

A few hours later, life for the Dolton family changed dramatically. After Mrs Dolton gained consciousness she immediately went to see Ivan in his bedroom where she saw the most hideous figure. There in front of her was a young boy frantically jumping on his bed, only he had vast amounts of facial hair, sharp glistening blades fiercely coming in and out of his knuckles. He had inestimable qualities, but was seen as a fiend in the eyes of other people in the community.

'Look mum, I am like one of those cartoon characters,' Ivan shouted as the floor rocked which caused the dust to be vented into the atmosphere. Mrs Dolton cried out a sharp screeching scream which blew the ear drum of Jack Dolton who was downstairs. Then, the floor stopped shaking, everyone stopped moving; they were like stone statues. Suddenly, the phone rang,

'Hello, Jack Dolton,' exclaimed the speaker

'Yes,' replied Mr Dolton

'This is Phil here from the Government; I would like you to know that where ever you go from here I will always be your friend,' the phone was slammed abruptly.

Jack Dolton looked outside the window and he was astounded by what his incisive eyes saw. There was a swarm of people all in black uniform and behind them were three funeral cars each with a black wooden coffin inside waiting patiently to be consumed by the worms and disintegrated by the rich soil.
