Perfection in all walks of life is what every person in today's society needs to strive for. Including the academic world. If anyone disagrees with that, then they should have the question of 'Why not?' thrown at them. Only good things can come from trying to achieve perfection. A certain powerful quote from Les Brown (former American politician, author, motivational speaker, and television host) comes to mind when I think about striving for perfection. 'Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss, you'll land among the stars.' That quote has a powerful meaning, for if someone shoots for perfection, they may not reach it, but they could still reach greatness.
Although ultimate perfection may not be the result, everyone should be encouraged to reach for perfection in their academic world.
Take the quote in the previous paragraph and insert the meaning of it into the academic world. People should shoot for perfection in school, shoot for that A+, shoot for High Honor Roll, Dean's List, or any academic award available.
They may not get all those exact awards, but maybe they get that A- and get on the honor roll. Now, those results are much better then excepting mediocrity, showing up, and just getting the average grade of a C or B. If everyone tries for perfection, it doesn't only benefit that singular person. It benefits everybody.
I entered into High school with the mindset that I was going to shoot for that perfect GPA. I put 110% into everything.
Every assignment, no matter the size, I shot for the perfect score. I did not achieve that perfect GPA, but I did finish with an excellent GPA. Which, afforded me the chance to go to college, because of the astronomically high price of college, I was not going to be able to attend. However I was awarded an academic scholarship, that provided me the means to attend college. I shot for academic perfection throughout high school, and because of that, I got a chance to attend college. Looking at my life, I know I am a huge proponent of aiming for academic perfection.
Another personal example of achieving perfection academically, was when I aimed for a perfect score on the SAT's, which is the standardized test that kids looking to get into college take. I may not have achieved a perfect score, but I still got a very good one. That success also gave me a chance to earn scholarship money towards college, because I did not just sit back and content myself with an average academic life. Perfection may be a struggle and a burden, but in the end the success one will have is worth it. I was awarded many wonderful things that have benefited me greatly in life.
How can society today expect to better itself, if everyone is not performing to their fullest potential. In a way, here in America, if one were to look closely, they would see a decline in the performance in every category, academics included. The reason for that is, people are no longer performing to their fullest potential, trying to be as great as they can be. So, the question is, why would someone not want to be perfect in academics, or anything? Only good things come from striving for perfection. When one does not, that is when they experience negatives.
