My Impression Of The Grand Final Of Champions League

Categories: Football

This was it, the closing minutes of our, the Grand Final of the Champions league. It was a once in a lifetime opportunity for us, as we exceeded expectations and went undefeated the whole tournament. Though our opponents, Real Madrid were winning 1-0 against Barcelona, we still had the one thing keeping our arching bodies moving. Hope. Our star player, Lionel Messi, was weaving with ease through the Real Madrid’s defence and he then took the shot for the equalizer.

With a few minutes on the clock! The ball missed by a long shot from, the outside of the 18-yard box and took our dwindling hope with it.

We all knew that was it for the game when the referee blew his whistle, so we all trudged off the field. But, out of nowhere. The referee blew his whistle again and yelled out to as, the players! “Why are you leaving the field? It is a penalty’’! Our jaws dropped in surprise and that feeling of hope was resurfacing within us.

We all raced back onto the football pitch, and together the team shrieked. ”Let Messi take it”!

I stood frozen as he lined up to take the most important shot of the whole tournament. Everything was in slow motion, as the ball then flew past the goalies hands and into the back of the net! We had levelled the match during the last minutes!

Once again, the referee blew his whistle, so we raced to the training room, to prepare for the penalty shootout.

Our coach slowly said with confidence, “Coutinho you will go first, Messi will you go second, Suarez third, Dembele fourth and Vidal you will take the fifth”.

I was to go first and I was incredibly nervous, much like a child on their first day of Kindergarten. As our time in the training room closed, we left with long strides towards the field. However, we were all nervous. We had only one thought on our minds. To win!

We walked on to the football pitch, receiving an occasional ‘BOOOO’! From the Real Madrid side. Nevertheless, the cheers for us were overwhelmingly loud. As I lined up for the penalty, the referee blowed the whistle loudly! As soon as my boot made contact with the ball, the ball made contact with the net. A goal! I did not celebrate too much because I knew that was only one-steps of many to come.

Then, the Real Madrid player took their shot and our goalie saved it with ease. Messi then walked confidently to the penalty spot and smashed the ball to the top corner! Then the opponent then ran up for his penalty, but our goalkeeper dived and quickly caught it. We were now two up and we all knew we just needed get the next goal in the net to win the tournament. The Real Madrid’s goalie was against our striker “Suarez’. He was a snail in a race as he took his time to shoot, but eventually the ball slammed right into the goalies hands.

“Drat”! Suarez screeched, but that was not the end.

The Real Madrid’s fans were excited as a dog waiting for its favourite food. As the Real Madrid player kicked the ball past our goalkeeper and into the back of the net. We were shocked and stunned by the penalty of the Madrid player. However, we knew that we still had a chance. Dembele then raced to the box to take his shot. With brilliant technique, he seamlessly pinned it in the goal. Suddenly the uproar started when the Real Madrid’s star player ‘Cristiano Ronaldo’ lined up for his shot, but rain started to drizzle down onto our sweaty bodies. As he ran towards the ball, he slipped and so his foot barely touched the ball. The ball rolled to our goalkeeper’s hands, he comfortably saved the penalty. WE HAD WON! Never in my life had I been this happy for winning the Champions League! We were all overjoyed!
