Grand Travel: Why Go To Paris?

Half of the world feels that life would be so much excitingly different if they have a view of the Eiffel Tower every single day that they wake up. And they are probably right. It must be the most romantic place in the world, the most sophisticated and glamorous atmosphere - the lights at night, the monuments and museums, the people, the food! Paris is famous for its rich culture, history and art but its true magnificence lies on the city itself.

You cannot go on living imagining how it is like to be in Paris. You have to be there and live your dream.

You have to cherish the city for the memories to last you a lifetime. A family vacation in Paris will be an unforgettable one. The family will have a wonderful time visiting the opera houses, museums, monuments and other establishments. Paris’ first mass attraction is the Eiffel Tower, which probably makes the city a seductive place that it is today (Pitt, 2006).

Around six million visitors per year are dazzled by its beauty and more than 200 million since its construction. The city’s most prized museum, the Louvre, records 8 million visitors a year.

It houses many works of art, including the Mona Lisa and the Venus de Milo statue. Original works of various artists such as Pablo Picasso and Auguste Rodin have their own museums, in Musee Picasso and Musee Rodin, respectively. Recently, new museums were constructed for the arts from Africa, Asia, Americas and Oceania. Aside from the Eiffel Tower, two other Parisian landmarks are famous - the twelfth-century cathedral Notre Dame de Paris on the Ile de la Cite and the Napoleonic Arc de Triomphe.

Notre Dame de Paris is considered as one of the finest examples of French Gothic architecture in the world, showing heavy influence of Naturalism Movement in 19th century. The Napoleonic Arc de Triomphe, on the other hand, displays the triumphal arch which honors those who fought for France, particularly during the Napoleonic Wars. Paris largest opera houses are the 19th century Opera Garnier and modern Opera Bastille where classic ballets and operas and mixed classic and modern repertoire are being staged, respectively (Horne, 2002).

There are also mid-19th century opera houses still exist up to this day, the Opera Comique and the Theater Lyrique. Some of their notable theaters are Bobino, Theatre Mogador, and the Theatre de la Gaite-Montparnasse where artists that perform are also the popular actors of the French television today. The city’s cathedrals are also worth visiting. Its Notre Dame de Paris and the Basilique du Sacre-Coeur receive 12 million and eight million visitors per year, respectively. A vacation in Paris is not complete without the visit of their local restaurants to taste the authentic French cuisine.

Paris is known for culinary finest, owing to the diverse influence of inhabitants (Dillon & Herbach, 2008). The 19th organization of the railway system allowed Paris to accumulate cooking influences from rich gastronomical culture. Frequent travelers to Paris advise to wake up early and not to skip breakfast as this is the most delicious meal of the day in Paris. The hospitality in hotels and restaurants is impressive for being a waiter in France is a profession not just a part time job for students. Paris is beautiful in many ways than one.

Its status remains unchanged for two millennia and up to this day a leading influence in politics, education, entertainment, media, fashion, science and the arts. A vacation in Paris is not only a wonderful time spent with family but an interesting adventure and an educational tour for that matter. References Dillon, Michael & Herbach Andy. (2008).
