Memory is the foundation of our life and it comes fast and smooth for us to grasp something, however, how can we not forget our mother's name or all those little details that make us have those close relationships with the people that are in our lives? If you want to save those fascinating moments they will be kept on an important shelf called long-term memory. We have the keys and the possibility to retrieve memory from this shelf. In essence, we can always have something that may trigger our moments called recognition or just moments that we wish to once again experience called recall.
It is deeply interesting how we can control how we retrieve this information. For example, serial recall is a technique people use to somehow organize their train of perceptions with how they remember things in what happened first, second, and so on.
Another recall is the cued recall which is helped in advance when the person is going through an activity to grasp the information and cues involved that are used as signals to help the brain recognize that particular subject when it is needed.
Free recall is also capitalizing and is when a person over an extensive amount of time can retrieve information however they would like. However, some obstacles can get your memory in other ways and make it hard for you to obtain it. This is called proactive interference. There is another type called retroactive interference is kind of the opposite of proactive interference.
If you have spent time with something for some time and then choose to do something else relating to that specific thing then, you might face a rough time when you decide to relearn that thing as it is not fresh any longer.
There is the encoding specificity principle as well that states that the environment and what it consists of you can code on and it will help produce a reflex to you once you see it or hear it again. There are different effects to the retrieval of information like the testing effect as well as the retrieval-induced forgetting. The first effect is depicting how every time you play around with a memory in your head it gets identified easily. In cases like the second effect, some changes may be altered and the person might just focus on a particular thing in the memory and slowly blur out the rest.
These are the primordial assets to the retrieval of memory and how it is characterized. Coding is also an important element.
