In this paper two artworks are chosen to give a detailed study of those two by comparing and contrasting them. One of them is View of Paris from the Pont Royal and another one is The Grande Galerie of the Musee Du Louvre. The artwork View of Paris is painted by the famous painter Pierre Antoine Demachy and the second artwork is created by Hubert Robert.

The first one is the beautiful painting of Paris city from a specific viewpoint which is called the Pont Royal.

The painting has a certain aesthetic value within it. The painter has done and fantastic and marvellous job in describing that specific scenic view. The painting is so good that sometimes it seems to be real in front of the eyes. The second painting on the other hand portrays a painting gallery and some people creating artworks in that gallery (WILLIAMS, 2018). The first painting was painted in the 18th century in the year 1778 and the second painting was painted in the nineteenth century in between the year 1801 to 1805.both of this artwork is the great works of two centuries that got a secure and respectable place in the Louvre Art gallery. This whole process is very prestigious for the two artists.

Both of the two works are specifically the oil painting on canvas. The paper used in both of these artworks is the specific kind of paper which has a very smooth surface. And paint droplets are used to create the beautiful masterpieces.

If we talk about the similarities and dissimilarities then the first thing that comes to mind is the time period in which they are created in. The first painting is created in the eighteenth century where as the second painting is created in the nineteenth century. There is time gap of 21 to 25 years in between them. The next dissimilarity which we can discuss in this context is the basic theme of these pictures. The theme of beautiful Paris has gotten position in the painting of Pierre Antoine and the grand gallery of Louvre has taken its place in the canvas of the Hubert Robert. Both of the paintings have been done in same technique which is the oil painting in canvas (Wendler, 2015). Both of these paintings are created with short strokes of brush in canvas. Though the first painting is created with water and paint droplets the other one simply has followed the classic oil painting style. These are a few similarities and dissimilarities amongst the two painting which will be discussed in detail later in this paper.

Historical Response

The two artists whose artworks are being discussed in this research paper of compare and contrast are Pierre Antoine Demachy and Hubert Robert. Pierre Antoine Demachy is famous French painter who actually is well known for his artworks of ruins. Various destroyed places have gotten a place in his paintings and he beautifully captured the inner beauty of the ruined places in his artistry. He is the painter of eighteenth century. And the culture of both of the centuries has blended beautifully in the painting of Demachy. The other painter is Hubert Robert is another painter from the nineteenth century. This painter is also of French origin. And ruin has acquired place in his painting too. Various ruined places of Italy and France was the subject of his painting. He beautifully captured the aesthetics of those ruined places. He also painted some designs of well known valuable places. One of them is the gallery of the Louvre museum which was very famous at that time for keeping the best artworks of the contemporary times (Weight, 2017). He was conferred the title of keeper of the museum for his great works regarding the museum.

As discussed above the culture of ruin is focused on in both painter's artwork. Demachy has painted the beautiful view of Paris in his painting. In Demachy's work the giclee print used to pint the beautiful painting. Demachy was actually a architectural painter who portrays and captures different form of architecture and ruins of hat architecture in his painting. This culture is focused on this painting too. From Pont Royal the painter saw the beautiful scenic view of Paris and he described through his painting. This was a time period when all the impressionist painters had gone from the city which is also delivered through this picture. Another painter Hubert Robert is also a painter through whose painting various designs of famous architectures are painted (Dudley, 2014). The gallery of Louvre is also an instance of this where he designed the total art gallery to prove the importance of a specific art gallery. These two cultures can be found from these paintings.

The above discussed two painters are from the eighteenth and early nineteenth century and both of them are from France. That is why both the painters had experienced the extravagant diverse effect of the French Revolution (Mayernik, 2016). After the french revolution when Robinson Crusoe ascends to the throne the city had faced a huge ruin of different architecture different cultures and so the subject of ruin was focused on their painting.

Both the paintings are created on canvas and on papers whose surface was very smooth. Both the paintings are actually oil paintings on canvas which beautifully portrays the two different subjects of the paintings. The paper that is used to portray these paintings was very high quality papers and they were completely acid free thus having a smooth surface. This helped the painters to create their marvellous works. The painter used the droplet technique to paint the view of Paris in an extravagant manner which became so much eye soothing. As discussed above these artworks are a part of certain genre (Balaceanu & Takeda, 2016). The genre in which the style of ruin is more put to focus by both of the two painters.

There are two different subjects that can be seen in both of the paintings. The first one explains the view of Paris that can be seen from the Pont Royal where as the second one depicts the design of the Louvre art gallery where now famous paintings have taken place including this brilliant masterpiece.

Critical Analysis

These two pictures have been chosen for compare and contrast because there two different subjects signified in both of the pictures. The first one depicts the view of the Paris from the hotel of Pont Royal. The second picture actually delivers the aristocratic design of the Louvre Art Gallery. As the subjects are different and the two time periods when they were created are different from each other these two artworks are appropriate to be compared.

According to the wheelers chart two different time period are talked about in these paintings. The setting of time and place both are different in these two paintings. The first one where the view of Paris is described is the time period when all the painters who practised impressionism have left the city as the movement has ended. The second in the contrary are depicting a design which has helped in the designing of Louvre Art Gallery (Stammers, (2016, June). This two time period and their significance is very different from each other that is the biggest dissimilarity of the two artwork.

There are various similarities and dissimilarities in the two artworks. There are two different time periods, two different settings of the two artworks. The places where they have chosen to create this work are also different from each other. One is in the setting of Paris and the other one is in the setting of a gallery. There are several political contexts which can be derived from these two paintings. The impressionism in some level has influenced the painting of the Damachy's. The French Revolution also has some effect upon the paintings that we are discussed in this paper.

Conclusion

It can be concluded from the two paintings namely View of Paris from the Pont Royal and secondly The Grande Galerie of the Musee Du Louvre. The two backgrounds of the two painters named Pierre Antoine Demachy and Hubert Robert are also discussed in the upper discussion. What can be derived from the artworks is that the two painters are very much focused on depicting the devastation of ruins. The political scenarios like impressionism and French Revolution are also discussed in this research paper.
