“Ambition beats genius ninety nine % of the time”. That's why we are here today to take a look at two examples of that 1 percent. Macbeth: the fictional character from the Shakespearian play “Macbeth”, and Pablo Escobar: the most notorious and well-known drug lord of the 1970s & 1980s if not the century. Pablo Emilio Escobar Gaviria was born on December 1, 1949, in the Colombian city of Rionegro, Antioquia; his family later moved to the suburb of Envigado. As his fortune and popularity grew, he wanted to achieve his childhood dream of being seen as a leader. In some ways, he aimed to be looked at like a Robin Hood by giving and caring about the poor, which was echoed by many locals as he spent money to expand social programs for the poor. but later, terror campaigns that resulted in the murder of thousands turned against him. Colombian enforcement finally found Pablo Escobar on December 2, 1993, in a middle-class neighborhood in Medellin. A firefight ensued and, as Escobar tried to flee across a series of rooftops, he and his bodyguard were shot and killed.

On the other hand, we have Macbeth; the star character of “Macbeth” by William Shakspere. The story of 'Macbeth' relies on the history of the UK revealed in 1577 and referred to as 'Holinshed's Chronicles.' It contains stories concerning King Duff, he was is killed in his own house by his people, among them Donwald, the inspiration for the character of the Macbeth. That’s why disloyalty and murderousness characteristics had to be added to the character. Macbeth could be an advanced character that changes throughout the course of the play. At the start of the play, Macbeth is celebrated as a loyal and exceptionally brave and strong soldier and is rewarded with a new title from the king. He becomes the Thane of Cawdor as foretold by 3 witches, whose scheming helps drive Macbeth’s ever-growing ambition and contributes to his transformation into a murderer and tyrant. How much of a push Macbeth required to become a murderer isn't clear. But the word of three mysterious women, together with his wife's conniving pressure, appears to be enough to push his overweening ambition to be king in the direction of murder. Our 1st perception of Macbeth as a brave soldier is lessened once we see how simply he’s manipulated by Lady Macbeth. We watch his vulnerability to Lady Macbeth's questioning of his masculinity. Macbeth is a mixed character, with a seeming capacity for virtue at the start, but no strength of character to reign in his inner power lust or to resist his wife's coercion. As the play advances, Macbeth is simultaneously overwhelmed with a combination of ambition, violence, self-doubt, and ever-increasing inner turmoil. But as he doubts his own actions, he is nevertheless compelled to commit further atrocities upon atrocities in order to cover up his previous wrongdoings. Viewing Macbeth as an inherently evil creature is tough as a result of him clearly lacking psychological stability and any strength of character. We watch the cause of the events of the play his mental clarity: His guilt causes him a good deal of painfulness and ends up in sleep disorder and hallucinations, such as the bloody dagger and also the ghost of Banquo. He is a person controlled by forces other than himself, however despite being subject to those forces larger than his troubled and weakening conscience, despite this inner division, he is still able to murder, acting decisively like the soldier we meet at the start of the play. Macbeth is rarely proud of his actions, even once they have attained him his prize as a result of he's acutely attentive to his own tyranny. This divided conscience continues to the end of the play, where there is a sense of relief when the soldiers are at his gate. However, Macbeth continues to stay foolhardily confident perhaps thanks to his inerrable belief within the witches’ predictions. At his end, Macbeth embodies an eternal archetype, the weak tyrant: the ruler whose brutality is borne of inner weakness, greed for power, guilt, and susceptibility to others' machinations and pressures. The play ends where it began: with a battle. Although Macbeth is killed as a tyrant, there is a small redemptive notion that his soldier status is reinstated in the very final scenes of the play. Over the course of the play, the character of Macbeth in an exceeding sense comes full circle, back to battle, however currently as a monstrous, broken, and desperate version of his earlier self.

Pablo Escobar and Macbeth have a lot of indistinguishable outlines about their personal stories. Pablo Escobar ambition and desire made him go in a new direction which is drug dealing. Even as Macbeth whose ambition and desire made him follow the prophecy of the three witches- which mainly states that Macbeth is going to be the king of Scotland- which totally

transformed him from a brave warrior to a deranged man who only thinks about his interest and ambition. Although Maria Victoria, Pablo Escobar wife, was only fifteen years old she bolstered up him with his defective business giving him a bunch of pieces of advice; a lot of reporters also says that she was one of the reasons why Pablo stood all that way without falling. just as Macbeth whose wife lady Macbeth was one of the main reason of reaching his desire which is becoming the king of Scotland; she convinced him to take one of the hardest steps of his life that changed the rest of his entire life. Macbeth weak character and personality made the three witches to persuade him with the prophecy and that caused of planting the idea of killing the king. Same as Pablo who entered this field, although he knew that it is a fatal unethical business, for only the sake and desire of money. those directions made both of them (Macbeth and Pablo) jump in a totally different social level and extravagant luxurious life. The drug lord income reached over 21.9 billion dollars a year in his supreme days, allowing him to do whatever he wants: buying large houses, unique cars, expensive jewelry, same as Macbeth becoming the king of Scotland allowed him to kill whatever who threat his position and do whatever he wants. both characters didn’t realize that their bad ambition and desire was the main reason for their destruction. Although their bad ambition the two of them Pablo and Macbeth had something good inside of them in which Pablo built a lot of non-profit organizations for the people in need and gave money for the people who impoverished and Macbeth once upon a time was a brave loyal night who serves his king and protect his country nobly. Macbeth and Pablo lived in a land of Nod on the earth, but at the end, Pablo’s life ended by one bullet in his heart just as Macbeth who was slain with a sword. last but not least both characters had the same expansion which both followed substandard ways to fulfill their desire, both characters had the same climax, reaching to what their ambition and desire wants, both characters had the same down full which the people knew the gospel truth about them, both characters had the same trough as both of them were killed and knew that what they did was totally erroneous, and finally and most important that both characters had shown the terrible effects that ambition and guilt can have on men who lacks strength of character and substandard ambition

Pablo Escobar was a drug dealer who controlled about 80 percent of the cocaine transferred to the united states, he gets millions of dollars in a year, he removes his obstacles in which any means necessary and his obstacles usually be people and its end by killing them. Both Macbeth and Escobar value power than anything or anyone else. Escobar any time he saw his power is weak he orders that some people be killed. Macbeth is a fictional character who was good and loyal to his king but soon after a single thought of betrayal to get to the throne, he had turned to evil. Macbeth does the same thing when he realizes that Banquo and his children a threat to him to maintain his power and the throne so he assigned two murders and convinced them to kill Banquo and his son (fleance) as Banquo was the only one with him when the witches telling the prophecy of Macbeth being a king but Banquo bloodline will be kings. Macbeth orders his closest friend Banquo to be killed that will be no chance that Macbeth will lose his throne. While Escobar orders his closest associates to be murdered because he had some subsections that they were stealing or betraying him to that police or to his enemies. Both Macbeth and Escobar may think that they are gods as they decide who lives and who dies and this shows their evil and greedy. Both of them can’t accept fate, Macbeth after he knows from the Prophesy that he will be king instead of letting things develop as itself he turns to killing and murdering to achieve his goal and his ambition for power. Escobar uses violence and murder to gain more power in his empire instead of leaving things as it is as Drug dealing because of his ambition he decided to gain more power and influence by being a member in the Congress of Colombia and he wanted more than that he wanted to be the president of Colombia but his bath of becoming rich didn’t stay hidden because of the justice minister revealed Escobar bad history and the crimes he made. So Escobar was forced after two years from his election to resign which results in killing the justice minister.

Both of Pablo Escobar and Macbeth have a great impact to their country Macbeth as being a king, he caused a lot of people to flee to other countries and didn’t worry about his own country only for the throne. They harmed their own country to just maintain their power and They will do anything to maintain their power. Their ambition for power caused their downfall.
