After her father’s death, Scout Finch and her brother, Jem, are raised by their father’s sister, Alexandra, and their father’s best friend, Atticus Finch. As children, Scout and Jem are often bored and get into trouble. One summer, they meet a new neighbor, Dill, who tells them a story about a man who lives in the town’s courthouse. The man, Boo Radley, is rumored to be a murderer. Jem and Scout become fascinated with Boo and try to get him to come out of his house. One night, they witness a crime being committed by another man in the town, Bob Ewell. Atticus Finch defends Bob Ewell in court, and Bob Ewell is found not guilty. However, Bob Ewell later attacks Jem and Scout, and Boo Radley comes to their rescue.
