In Howards End”, the author, E. M. Forster, tells the story of two families in England during the early 1900s. The first family is the wealthy Wilcox family, who live in London and own a country estate called Howards End. The second family is the poorer Schlegel family, who live in the city and are intellectuals. The two families become connected when Margaret Schlegel befriends Ruth Wilcox, who is dying of cancer. Ruth leaves Howards End to Margaret in her will, and when the Wilcox family learns of this, they are not happy. The story focuses on the relationships between the members of the two families, and how they are affected by the class differences between them. Margaret falls in love with Henry Wilcox, the head of the family, but their relationship is difficult because of their different backgrounds. Ultimately, the story is about how the two families learn to understand and respect each other, despite their differences.”
