Sensitive Items is a range of items which varies from those which are essential to the mission to those which contain information which is sensitive in nature (i.e. giving access to secure communication, movement of troops, their equipment, support lines or the general idea of the mission.) There are many reasons these items need to be secure and accountability maintained for them. Some of these reasons include the potential to pose a threat to mission success if fallen into the wrong hands, the ability to complete the mission if not maintained by the troops themselves, the security of those around you if not maintained, and the ease and flow with which the mission must go on to be effective.
I lost my military ID card.
I am writing this essay to explain the importance of maintaining my sensitive items. In the military you are required, as a soldier, to maintain your sensitive items.
There are many reasons why you should maintain your sensitive items, one being operations security. You donut want the enemy of the United States army to get a hold of these items and use them against you, your unit, or the people you protect. The second reason being personal safety, you dont want other people in or out the military to get a hold of your personal information and use it to abuse your name and credit. Another reason why you need to always maintain your sensitive items is accountability, at all times in the military you are accountable of your sensitive items you must maintain these items all times.
The reason why operational security is so important for you to maintain as a soldier is because its the safety of you, your unit, and the United States army. If the enenemy is able to use your sensitive item to harm soldiers, civilians, buildings or equipment you if will be held accountable for that.
The Importance Of Securing Sensitive Items include protective gear, maps, or a piece of paper designating patrol routes, recall rosters etc... The importance of securing sensitive items comes down to maintaining accountability for operation security, mission success and a soldiers over all readiness. The habits of exercising security and accountability of a soldiers items allow the soldier and their team to operate to the highest state of readiness or have items be accessed by an opposing adversary creating loss of overall mission success. Operational security is a process that denied critical information to an adversary. If one were to obtain the information presented it could be used against friendly forces or friendly nations. Utilizing all assets to maintain and secure sensitive items and classified information promote proper operational security and soldier readiness. Not securing items of sensitive nature acquire the risk of loss by being intercepted by unauthorized persons.
All personnel should maintain accountability You dont want that on your conscious as a person knowing your actions led to a terror attack. It is very important to secure all your sensitive equipment and items, and maintain accountability. The reason simply is to keep very important high cost valued items and equipment accounted for so people all around you do not have to deal with the consequences of the lost item or equipment. Also every sensitive item or equipment is high dollar valued so if you lose it you will be hurting money wise by losing a grand or more easily right on the spot. And after that you can possibly do jail time from six months to a year and sure there will be rank taken away or something along those lines. You might even get an article fifteen after all that or maybe when you have to pay for the lost sensitive equipment or item so these should be a main priority to maintain and know where they are at all times and are accounted for either battle buddy or maybe CQ desk or the CP if their not personally on you. But in the end I am the one who needs to be accountable at all times, I won't say that losing your ID card is completely out of your control, but even losing it twice can happen obviously.
Things happen, we've all lost something before, hell I had lost $100 cash before. When I woke up the next day and couldn't find it, I was so pissed, but it happened and there was nothing I could do about it, just had to take it as a loss. I’m only human, and this will not be the last mistake I ever make. However, I wont make the same mistake over and over again. I am certain that the corrective training I am doing sucks just enough if not more to make me want to ensure to maintain firm awareness of the location of my ID card at all times from now on, which I'm sure was the intention of this corrective training or essay writing. Don't get me wrong a lot of bad things have the potential to occur if my ID were to fall into the wrong hands. Being accountable means being dependable arriving to work and appointments on time, meeting deadlines, being in the right place at the right time, doing the right thing at the right time, and making sure you have your i.d. card at all times.
Morning formation is the most important formation of the day. It is made to get accountability of everyone and put out any information that there needs to be dealt with. Without having accountability there is no knowing of where everybody is or what's going on. I have realized that is an important asset always showing up on time By not being accounted for I have let my unit down and failed in the missions that needed to be completed. I have not set a good examples for my Soldiers in my squad or fellow NCO’s. I did not lead by example. As a non commissioned officer I should have used better judgement. I can’t expect my chain of command to entrust Soldier’s to me if I cannot be accountiable for my actions. I truly regret not having better accountability of myself. I have caused work to be late due to the fact that I let my personal issues cloud my judgement. It will not happen again.
I need to ensure that I always strive to do better and achieve all of the goals in which I have set forth. I now realize that no matter what issue I am having that I need to communicate better with my chain of command so that they can help me. If I would have communicated more with my chain of command then there would not have been an issue with my wear abouts. I need to ensure that I am in the proper place at all times and if I am not then I need to ensure that someone knows where I am at all times. I must ensure that my Soldier’s are where they are supposed to be in their proper uniform. I need to ensure that I am that to receive the proper information to put out to them. If I do not put out the information to my Soldiers then I have failed them. It could be consequences for the Soldier due to me not putting out the information in time. Also, I must always b e accountable for my actions no matter how severe the consequences are. I need to teach the Soldier’s that it is best to have integrity in all situations. By not have good accountability for myself I did not live up to all of the Army values.
Once you have neglected one army value then you might have well neglected them all. Also by not making it to accountability it looks like I was blowing off pregnancy pt. Pregnancy pt is a post wide program and is mandatory that you let them know where you are during pt hours due to them needed to have accountablilty for you. They report to your chain of command all shows and no shows. As the training NCO I am accountable for ensuring that all training events are recorded and reported accurately. It is very important to have accountablility of all training documents to ensure that I am reporting everything properly. Accountability is one of the most important things in the Army. Working in the orderly room also makes me accountable for reporting the numbers of the whole unit. If I am not at work working on the stats ensuring that I know where everyone is at all times I have also failed my chain of command. Not having good accountability for Soldiers in combat could cause someone to lose their life. I could not live with myself if I cause someone to be injured or someone get injured because I failed them.
The U.S. army values soldiers that are accountable for their actions. Being accountable means being dependable-arriving to work and appointments on time, meeting deadlines, being in the right place at the right time, doing the right thing at the right time. Morning formation is the most important formation of the day. It is made to get accountability of everyone and put out any information that there needs to be dealt with. Without having accountability there is no way knowing of where everybody is or what's going on. Not only does accountability matter in formation it is also imperative to have accountability of all your weapons and sensitive items. In case of something happening spontaneously and you don't have a clue where you weapon or sensitive items are, but then you really need them. The importance of being on time accounted for is because lets say that you do not come back to formation after you go out on a convoy then they know that you are missing.
If you do not show up and you do not respond on the radio there is going to possibly be a search team for you. If they do send a search team for then that puts that entire team at risk while looking for you. Point of accountability formation is to make sure all of your soldiers are there and that they are all accounted for. If one person is not accounted for then the entire formation does not leave. It is not just the fact that everyone is accounted for it is part of your military duty to be at formation and at movement. If you do not make it to formation or movement it is punishable by UCMJ. It could be the end of your carrer. Not only will it ruin everything that you have gone through and wasted your time but you are also letting your buddies down and if you can not show up to formation what makes you think that they can trust you in being there in the time of need. If you can not be there then what is your team going to think when they hear over the radio that you are on the way and you are the only one that can help them.
They are going to be like what that is the only person we have well we are all good as dead. Accountablility does not end in the army life it also goes into civilian world. When you have a job in the civilian world they are looking for someone that can be on time and do the job but the second that you are not on time your accountabliity starts to go down the drain. Accountability is concerned primarily with records, while responsibility is concerned primarily with custody, care, and safekeeping. Why is accountability important to the Army? Accountability is a very important part of an enlisted and a NCO's job. The enlisted soldier is responsible for all items issued to issued to him weather it be a weapon, NVG's, clothes, a vehicle, or some TA-50, a feild manual, medication (morphine, demoral, or any narcotics), BII, etc.
The NCO's responsibility is to make sure that the soldier is accountable for the items and has eyes on these items when need, so that he can report it to his higher command. . The Army spends a lot of money on equipment and belongings for the soldiers, so the Army expects to know where its equipment is. No matter what someone is always responsible for equipment in the Army. It goes to the highest officer to the lowest enlisted personal in the chain of command and back up again. Like in combat when there is a "code Red" the soldier knows that at a given and safe time he or she should get to the rally point, predestined by his or her chain of command, that way he or she and his or her equipment can be accounted for. Accountability is used in many different ways, for example knowing if something is missing you could easy look at the accountability report to see if it was there before. Accountability is important because without it no one will know where you are.
If your team lead and or squad leader do not know where you are then when something important comes along they will not be able to find you to inform you. If something happens to where your platoons needs one hundred percent accountability and no one knows where you are then that doesn’t only look unprofessional for you but for your team leader and squad leader as well. If something were to happen to you and you never informed your team leader or squad leader where you are or are going then they will have no way of finding you in the event that something goes wrong. This means that you could be killed or extremely hurt. Although you’re supposed to trust battle buddies do not trust them to sign you out because they may forget and that falls back on you as well.
Without accountability there would be a lot of injuries or missing people for the simple fact that they did not want to sign out or go to their team and or squad leader and inform them of their whereabouts. People get snatched up every day so if this were to happen to you your team and squad leader may not notice till it’s too late. It is very important to make sure you’re whereabouts are well known to your team leader and or squad leader this way there is no later consequences. Some consequences of not informing your team leader and or squad leader of your whereabouts are getting smoked, making you write a one thousand word essay, they could make you teach classes, or just really embrace the gay in many different ways.
In the army accountability is half our job we are not asked to do much but be on time and let others know where you are so that if you are needed for anything they can get a hold of you. It is part of the job and something that shouldn’t get done wrong because without people will assume the worst and not know what to do when they can’t find you. That causes panic and panic does nothing but worry people and worried people are not successful people. Worried people means that they have fear and with fear much of the task as a combat engineer cannot be completed fear is a word that you must not know or use in this profession. Accountability is also important because it tells the unit commanders how many personnel are available to perform certain tasks. One hundred percent accountability isn’t just important for soldiers it is also important for equipment. It is important to keep track of all your equipment such as sensitive items and your weapon and such because if the enemy ever go their hands on our equipment then that would just give them an advantage towards killing another united states soldier.

Accountability (noun) Being responsible or liable for someone or something at the state of event and or situation. A leader takes charge and takes accountability for all those who fall under his or her leadership. Personnel accountability is critical in the event of a disaster or national emergency. Ensuring strict accountability for our military members is relatively easy because they are required to provide supervisors with contact information when they depart on leave even on there off time they are required to be accounted for. Civilians are not required to provide contact information while in a non-duty status, and "The Privacy Act precludes us from making it a mandatory requirement. Provide emergency contact information to supervisors voluntarily." So, in the spirit of safety and wellness, and out of concern for each and every member of our great command Accountability
Property accountability is the obligation imposed by law, lawful order, or regulation for keeping accurate records and maintaining control of property. Because accountability records were not being automatically updated, equipment catalogue shortfalls were not being resolved in a timely manner, serial number discrepancies were occurring as a result of destroyed or damaged equipment, and the operational tempo was high discrepancies occurred in controlling property in Iraq and Afghanistan.
The Army has continued its efforts to account for all equipment in the traditional sense and has developed two new initiatives to improve property accountability. What continued efforts does the Army have planned for the future? The two new initiatives, Property Book Unit Supply (PBUSE) to program managers (PMs) and the addition of Type Transaction Codes to property accountability transactions, will ensure accountability from the time of initial issue to the time the equipment is released from service. The PBUSE to PM initiative ensures that equipment fielded by PMs is added to the unit-accountable records at the time of issue.
PMs will be required to add their assets to PBUSE prior to issue, which will ensure that all equipment provided is transferred from their PBUSE account to the units PBUSE account. Any assets not transferred will remain on the PMs PBUSE account. PMs issuing equipment in theater will be the first to add their assets to PBUSE, followed by all others. The Type Transaction Code added to PBUSE will help the Army quantify the reason that the number of items is decreased or increased to unit property records, such as battle loss, training loss, or actual equipment loss. This code has been added to PBUSE in software change package (SCP) 6, and all transactions after that SCP will have this identification code.
Property accountability is every Soldiers responsibility and is essential to being good stewards of the property entrusted to the Army by the nation.
