Jason Momoa discusses the effects of climate change on vulnerable countries and urges people to do everything they possibly can to prevent it. In his speech, he uses many persuasive strategies to change the audience’s thoughts on this topic.
Jason Momoa uses numerous logical appeals. Logical appeals are often referred to as logos. Logos means using logic or reason to convince an audience. For example "There are more plastic particles in the ocean than stars in the milky way." This statistic displays the use of logos.
As seen, logos can be an effective technique for influencing an audience.
Another strategy Momoa uses is emotion.
The use of emotion to influence an audience is known as pathos. For instance, Momoa states "we are a disease that is infecting our own planet". This quote is an example of pathos because he attempts to make the audience feel frightened and concerned.
Jason Momoa uses ethical appeals as well to convince his readers. This appeal possesses the name ethos.
Ethos means to convince an audience of the author's credibility or character.
A display of ethos in Momoa’s speech would be that he is a native Hawaiian. This advantage Momoa has provides him with credibility be he is a Hawaiian-born actor.
Knowing this information gives people faith that he knows what he is talking about. Another example of this strategy is his knowledge of climate change. The methods Jason Momoa used are not only ways to influence the audience though. Composers have many more tactics other than logos, ethos, and pathos to influence an audience.
