In the dark ages of technology, where iPhones and laptops were considered farfetched concepts, in order to gather information you had to go to the library, find the encyclopedia or book that had the information that you need and if your family had the income for it, a desktop. Today everyone has a little hand held computer in the palm of their hands with access to the world with the press of a button.

Personal computers were available as early as the mid-1970s, first as DIY kits and then as off-the-shelf products.

They offered a few applications but none that justified widespread use. These computers took potentially took up an entire room. According to Census.gov, in 1984 less than ten percent of the US population owned a computer and IBM's own Personal Computer, IBM 5150 codenamed the Acorn, sprouted the tree of technology, was introduced in August 1981, only a year after the company executives gave Bill Lowe, the lab director at one of the company's facilities the green light for production.
