Every person in the U.S. has to go to school and achieve the minimum requirement of a high school diploma. Throughout that journey of gaining your education, it shapes you over the years to the person you will become in the future. Education has changed and shaped me into who I am today ever since I started in kindergarten. Over the years, I have learned how to balance my time between homework and extra-curricular activities, how to work in groups to accomplish a task, and how to work under pressure with big tests like midterms and finals.
With all of these obstacles thrown at me, I have learned how to overcome them and excel beyond what is expected. I feel as if I have gained many characteristics due to education including perseverance, organization, and responsibility. These qualities have helped shaped me into who I am today.
Perseverance is the ability to push-on despite the difficulty in the work. I felt I have persevered in many activities during my education.
For example, I have had multiple projects due all at the same time, however I learned how to accomplish all of them and managed to get a good grade on them as well. Another example would be the dreaded finals week that every high school student has to go through all four years. This week is the most difficult week of the year not only because it will determine the final class grade, but also studying for all the material that has been taught so far is like remembering what you ate for dinner four months ago.
Everything is so difficult to recall that you have to refresh your brain before you can remember it again. Studying takes perseverance and although it may not be the most fun activity, it is the most beneficial.
Organization is the action of planning or adjusting so that everything goes smoothly. High school has taught me to become very organized with my work so that I never lose anything. Organization is also helpful with schedule planning so that you never miss out on an event or due date. Personally, I have my own agenda where I write down all the due dates to my assignments, tests, and projects so that I will never forget anything. Doing this has benefit a lot because I am more aware of what is going on. Organization skills will be essential in the long run, especially when I start attending college and then working.
Responsibility is being accountable for your own work or having control over any situation. I have grown to be responsible of my actions in school and with my schoolwork. If there are any problems relating to me, I have learned to use my resources to solve my problems. It is no ones responsibility except your own and I have learned that while attaining my education. For example, my teacher put the wrong grade in the grade book; therefore, it was my responsibility to tell my teacher if I wanted it to be changed. Responsibility is a great quality that everyone should acquire because it shows independence and authority.
My education has greatly shaped me into who I am today. I now know many skills that I would have not acquired if I were not going to school. Some qualities I possess due to my education are perseverance, organization, and responsibility. Perseverance has taught me to never give up even when it seems impossible because there is always a light at the end of the tunnel. Organization has shaped me to have order in my life so that I am aware of everything. Lastly, being responsible has shaped me to take charge in my life; otherwise, I would be lost and dysfunctional. These three qualities are characteristics I have learned and will carry with me for the rest of my life. All three are beneficial and I would not have learned them if it was not for my education.
