Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone is a novel written by J.K Rowling it is a fantasy book with many twists and turns. it has been awarded best seller of the year many times upon release. However here we will be showing the differences and similarities between Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone in book form to movie form.
However they are both very enjoyable, the book has many more minor details that The movie couldn’t seem to fit in.
Here are just a few examples. For starters the movie couldn’t seem to find and actor fitting Harry’s full portrait, this is shown in the book when Harry was described as having green eyes, although In the movie his eyes were blue. Although this is a very small detail many viewers picked up on. Another difference I found at the start of the book is when Harry was taking a nap underneath the tree at the Dursley’s home.
Once he woke up he had noticed a red cat sitting still on the post box beside him.
Although in the movie, Uncle Vernon was the one who noticed the cat standing suspiciously still. Uncle Vernon however continued with his day whilst Harry felt quite awkward so Harry backed up inside. Despite the differences between characters and scenes, the book had given more Detail to the reader about appearances this is shown at the start of the book when uncle Vernon was described as ‘a big, beefy man with hardly any neck, although he has a big moustache’ whilst in the movie, nearly no context was given to the viewer on their appearance.
Nevertheless the movie and the book are great even with the minor differences. I’d recommend watching/reading both the book and the movie. They are both very entertaining with there own twists and turns.
