Abstract

The research on the cucumber as stain remover for kitchen sinks as an effective stain remover for kitchen sinks. It aimed to produce stain remover for kitchen sinks out of a cheaper materials as a substitute to a commercial stain remover for kitchen sinks.

For this reason, the researchers decided to produce an alternative substitute for high cost commercial stain remover. In which it doesn’t need to spend much money. The raw materials Needed can be found in our community. The study was therefore conduct to make use of the cucumber as stain remover for kitchen sinks and to produce a low price and benefits from the cucumber.

B. Statement of the problem

1. Is the cucumber as stain remover for kitchen sinks is effective in terms of its cleaning, shining ability and cost acceptability?
2. Is there significant difference between the commercial stain remover and cucumber as stain remover for kitchen sinks in terms of their cleaning, shining ability and cost acceptability?

C. Hypothesis

HO: The cucumber as stain remover for kitchen sinks is incomparable to the commercial stain remover in terms of their cost acceptability, cleaning and shining ability.

HA: the cucumber as stain remover for kitchen sinks is comparable to commercial stain remover in terms if their cost acceptability, cleaning and shining ability.

D. Significance of the study

This study is worth making. It can help maintain cleanliness in a kitchen sinks at home, school and even at public places by using an environmental friendly stain remover which is made from the cucumber without using a harmful chemicals. He stain remover which is made from the cucumber is beneficial to the community by using the product for cleaning for the kitchen sinks regularly. It prevents the buildup of infectious bacteria or viruses and to avoid the spreading of disease. It can be used by the people who wants to clean the kitchen sinks without a harmful in their hands. By the use of cucumber as stain remover for kitchen sinks it will take a very little time and effort to clean the kitchen sinks and is very easy to prepared.

E. Scope and limitations

The center of interest of the study is on how to make a stain remover out of a cucumber and to recognize the proper procedure of making the product. This investigation is only limited to study the cleaning and shining ability of the cucumber as stain remover for kitchen sinks. The tests for the quantitative and qualitative data are limited to three trials in both experimental and control products and the study is use only for the kitchen sinks.

Methodology

The methodology used in this study involved a systematic approach to produce and evaluate the cucumber stain remover for kitchen sinks. The following steps outline the research process:

The design employed the two-group design which compared the control group (commercial stain remover) and the experimental group (cucumber as a stain remover for kitchen sinks). The treatments were replicated 3 times in the conducting of this study. The table below shows the layout of the design:

B. Materials and equipments

The following materials and equipments were used in the study.

Materials:

• 2 cucumbers
• 20 ml lemon juice
• 1 pc of empty bottle

Equipments:

• Juicer
• Knife
• Chopping board
• Sifter
• Measuring cup

C. Procedure

In making the product of cucumber as stain remover for kitchen sinks the first step is to gather all the materials needed in the study, second step peel the 2 cucumbers, third is slice the cucumber into circles using the knife and chopping board, the fourth step is put the cucumber in the juicer that slice into circle, fifth step when the cucumber turn into liquid filter it using the sifter, sixth step is mix it with the lemon juice and the last step put it to the empty bottle.

D. Treatment preparation

The following preparations were prepared in the study:
Treatment I: control group (commercial stain remover) with 3 replications.
Treatment II: experimental group (cucumber as stain remover for kitchen sinks) with 3 replications.

E. Treatment application

To compare the differences between the kinds of the stain remover, 2 stain remover were apply one the control group and the experimental group.

F. Disposal of waste materials

After the investigation was conducted, the peel of the cucumber and the lemon were thrown in the garbage bin.

G. Data gathering instrument

1. Cleaning ability: To evaluate and rate the cleaning ability of the cucumber as stain remover for kitchen sinks compared to the commercial stain remover sold in the market.
2. Shining ability: To determined the shines’ of the product when it is apply or use to the kitchen sinks.
3. Cost acceptability: The acceptability of the product in Philippines currency comparing the cucumber as stain remover for kitchen sinks is commonly tested and proven the price in order to compare the of the commercial stain remover.

H. Statistical analysis

The data gathered on the different test conducted by the researchers using the cucumber as stain remover for kitchen sinks and the commercial stain remover was recorded in the table form. The data were analyze using the mean value and t-test to determined the significant difference between the cucumber as stain remover for kitchen sinks and the commercial stain remover. Results will determined whether the null hypothesis formulated at chapter I of the study will be accepted or rejected.

Discussion

The results show that in terms of cleaning ability, the commercial stain remover performed slightly better than the cucumber stain remover, although both products effectively removed stains from kitchen sinks. However, when evaluating the shining ability, the commercial stain remover exhibited a slightly better shine compared to the cucumber stain remover.
