Investigating the Use of Lato (Caulerpa lentillifera) and Sugar as Plant Fertilizers

As agriculture plays a vital role in the Filipino way of life, the need for effective and affordable fertilizers has become increasingly important. In a country surrounded by vast bodies of water and fertile land, exploring the potential of seaweed and sugar as fertilizers could revolutionize farming practices and lead to more sustainable crop yields.

Statement of the Problem

The primary objective of this study is to determine whether Lato (Caulerpa lentillifera) can be utilized as a fertilizer for plants.

Additionally, we aim to compare the effectiveness of sugar-enhanced lato fertilizers with traditional fertilizers in promoting plant growth. Lastly, we seek to investigate whether lato seaweed and sugar can work synergistically to create a high-yielding crop fertilizer.

Null Hypothesis

It is hypothesized that Lato can serve as an effective plant fertilizer. Moreover, sugar can enhance the performance of lato fertilizers in promoting plant growth. Lastly, lato seaweed and sugar can complement each other in creating a fertilizer that boosts crop yields.

Review of Related Literature

Previous research has shown that seaweeds contain essential minerals and nutrients that promote plant growth. Seaweeds are rich in minerals such as potassium, sodium, calcium, and magnesium, which are crucial for plant development. Additionally, fertilizers derived from seaweeds have been found to increase crop yields and improve soil quality by enhancing water retention and resistance to pests.

Caulerpa lentillifera, specifically, is known for its high mineral content and antibacterial properties, making it a promising candidate for plant fertilization. When combined with sugar, fertilizers can influence soil pH levels and help control weed growth, providing a natural and eco-friendly solution for farmers.

Scope and Limitations

This study focuses on exploring the potential of lato seaweed and sugar as plant fertilizers when used in combination. Data for this research was gathered through a combination of online research and hands-on experiments. The study does not delve into other types of fertilizers or alternative combinations, as its main objective is to evaluate the effectiveness of lato seaweed and sugar in promoting plant growth.
