Apple Inc. is a consumer technology company that was founded in 1970 in Cupertino, California by a team that consisted of Steve Jobs, Steve Wozniak, and Ronald Wayne. The trio released the company’s first desktop called the Apple I in 1976 and after that, history was made. Apple Inc. soon began to take over the technology industry by releasing and innovating everyday products with products like the iPod, iPhone, Mac, and iPad. In September 2014, Apple finally released its first wearable device- the Apple Watch.
Receptions from the release of the Apple Watch have been generally positive and the technology was definitely not a failure.
Now, the Apple Watch has become the number one smartwatch in the world with about 24% of global market share and it generates billions of dollars from Apple each year.
Relative Advantage- What really made the Apple Watch stand out from its competitors like Pebble, Sony SmartWatch, and Samsung Galaxy Gear were that it was the first to include a heartbeat sensor, waterproof capability, voice control, and a bundle of apps that are compatible with the iPhone.
In 2018, Apple Inc. released the 5th installment of the Apple Watch and the reason why this technology is still relevant today is because it is only getting better. Sure, compared to its original model, the Apple Watch has the same dimensions and appearance, but it’s the features and continued innovations such as LTE cellular capabilities and location services that continues to hook people in buying the product each and every year.
Compatibility- For those that fear that the Apple Watch won’t be compatible with one’s life, that is proven wrong.
The Apple Watch is designed to be an extension with the iPhone. Activities like tracking your heart rate after a big workout and even checking text messages by flicking your wrist during a conference meeting are just some of the ways it can be incorporated in one’s life.
Complexity- A slight tick on the Apple Watch has to be on its complexity. For the everyday Apple user, this should not be a problem as they should be already used to the iPhone settings and therefore the Apple Watches. The real problem is for those that are elderly or unfamiliar with the brand. With its simple user interface however it does its jobs in telling the time, but if one wants to explore the many other features, they would need to research it: whether its online or at the Apple Store on how to thoroughly use and understand the Apple Watch.
Trialability- Apple Inc. excels in selling the Apple Watchr simply because it allows potential buyers to try out and play around with the product before buying. Located all across the country are Apple Stores in where all of Apple Inc. ’s products are on display on counters for one to use. Not only does this unique setup allow for buyers to understand the product, it also allows for cross-selling in where the person can come out the store with not only an Apple Watch but also a new iPhone because of their experience in the store.
Observability- What’s unique about the Apple Watch, being that it is Apple Inc. ’s first wearable device, is that it is visible to everyone when using. This acts as public advertisement of the Apple Watch for the potential buyer to observe when in the right setting. In turn, the person who wasn’t interested in the Apple Watch before observing it, now is because of how useful it can be in one’s everyday life. Communication Channels- Both Oral and Written channels are present with the Apple Watch. Buyers participate in formal communication channels like researching about the Apple Watch and Users participate in informal communication channels like face to face conversations when they are interested in getting other people to buy what they have. Mass Media Channels- Being that the Apple Watches are such an innovative product, it is common for it to be everywhere in the media when advertising. Social media setting like Twitter, Instagram, YouTube and FaceBook are where one can stop up on an ad. With Apple Inc. being such a global company, even on newspapers and in local stores can one bump into seeing what an Apple Watch is.
