The word "Algebra is derived from the Arabic word al-Jabr, which means reunion of broken parts, and this comes from the treatise written in the year 830 by the medieval Persian mathematician, Muhammad Ibnmusaal-Khwarizmi. Algebra was also created for scientist, without algebra scientist would not know how much of a chemical goes into an experiment. It is one of the broadest abstract of algebra and is primarily studied by professional mathematicians. Algebra is the study of mathematical symbols such as using letters to stand for numbers.
Algebra can be used for many things like Computer programming, Grocery expenses, and calculating discount.
Did you know that computer programming requires a lot of advanced math? A person who is interested in computer programming and coding will need to understand to manipulate mathematical logic. Algebra is used to calculate formulas and equations to find variables and/or solutions. Algebra isn't just simple equations like x + 3 = 5 they are far more complex and requires solid understanding. Coders use information theory which is applied to mathematics that use signal processing to store data or facilitating telecommunications.
Claude Shannon founded information with a paper he wrote in 1948. According to Wikipedia "He is also credited with founding both digital computer and digital circuit design theory in 1937." He believed that solving a problem with limited variables, and analytic skill development can help with decision making.
How much money do I need to take to the store? Going grocery shopping is hard especially if you're a teenager in college. That means you need to be more careful with how you spend money.
I had no idea how much my mom spent on food or how to even calculate the cost. We use algebra even for the simplest things as in grocery shopping. Let's be honest no one wants to be embarrassed for holding up a line because you didn't have enough money. You may think there is no way that algebra is used for grocery shopping. Think again just because there are no variables doesn't mean you don't use algebra every day.
When you think about discount prices you automatically think about percentage. Algebra helps calculate the percentage of an item from the original sale. Percent problems are usually solved by using proportions. Proportion is two ratios (or fraction) that are equal. It can be written in two ways: two equal fractions, or, using a colon, a: b = c: d. Word Problems also require algebra because without this how can you tell the price of an item. I know everyone has had difficulty with word problems from time and time again. The discount formula is S= P-RP, where S equals sales price, R equals discount percentage rate, and P equals the original price. Figuring out how to calculate a problem without using a calculator or rounding the estimate in your head. Algebra can be used to determine how much you can save when using a discount.
In conclusion math today is essential we rely on these materials in our everyday lives. We use algebra quite often without actually knowing it. Sure, Algebra has a lot of symbols, but those symbols take place of real numbers. When we think about algebra we don't take in consideration of meaningless things as in time, distance, or speed. If you have ever been late for class or even work you would know that apps can help with traffic alerts or accidents. Algebra is used to create apps such as Waze, Google maps, etc. that can determine the distance and time it takes to get to your destination. Without the determination of the distance, you may not determine the time. Sometimes just going from one place to another requires algebra.
