Adventures of Guys In “Lord of the Flies”

In “Lord of the Flies”, a group of boys was on a plane and they ended up crashing. The pilot didn’t survive It was just the kids. They had to know how to work together and survive the island by themselves. For them to do that they have to make rules. It was kinda hard to make rules when some of them didn’t follow the rules. William Golding uses Ralph’s thoughts, speech, and actions, to reveal the character’s thoughts to reveal the character’s unwillingly to hear the truth/leadership, and, the need for control throughout the novel.

First, a reader can identify Ralph through his thoughts. Golding reveals this when he writes “ He lifted the conch. ‘Seems to me we ought to have a chief to decide things.’ [Ralph] ‘A chief! A chief!’ [littlun] ‘I ought to be chief,’ said Jack with simple arrogance, ‘because I'm chapter chorister and head boy. I can sing C sharp.

’ Another buzz. ‘Well then,’ said Jack, ‘I--’ He hesitated. The dark boy, Roger, stirred at last and spoke up. ‘Let’s have a vote.’ ‘Yes!’ [littlun] ‘Vote for chief! ‘[Ralph]' (chapter 1). At this moment, it is clear that Ralph thinks that there should be a chief to be in charge and make up all of the rules. After they decide who the chief is they go on a little tour around the island. After a little while of looking around, they go back to where they had left all of the littluns and Piggy then Ralph stated ’My father's in the Navy.

He said there aren't any unknown islands left.

He says the Queen has a big room full of maps and all the islands in the world are drawn there. So the Queen's got a picture of this island.’ ‘We want to be rescued; and of course, we shall be rescued.’ ' (Golding 2). At this moment it is clear that he believes that his dad is going to save him just because he is in the Navy. ' ‘There’s another thing. We can help them to find us. If a ship comes near the island they may not notice us. So we must make smoke on top of the mountain. We must make a fire.’ [Ralph] ‘A fire! Make a fire!’ “ (Golding 1) this reveals that they are going to make a fire to make smoke so that if any ships come along and they see the smoke they will be saved. Another way that Ralph’s not wanting to hear the truth is revealed is through the climax of the novel. Second, a reader can identify Ralph through his speech. Golding reveals ' ‘My father's in the Navy. For there aren't any unknown islands left. He says the Queen has a big room full of maps and all the islands in the world are drawn there. So the Queen's got a picture of this island.’ ‘We want to be rescued; and of course, we shall be rescued.’ ' (Golding 2) Were the words he used. That got the point across that he is indeed foolish and that he has that kind of childish mindset. “Roger took the conch and looked around at them gloomily. ‘I’ve been watching the sea. There hasn’t been a trace of a ship. Perhaps we'll never be rescued.’ A murmur rose and swept away. Ralph took back the conch. ‘I said before we'll be rescued sometimes. We've just got to wait, that's all.’ “ (Golding 2) he is still wanting to believe that his dad will come to save them. Ralph’s actions suggest that he is afraid of reality because he kept trying to convince the other boys that his dad was in the navy and that he was going to find and rescue them. Here, we can see that he’s kind of weak-minded because he was convinced that his dad was going to just miraculously locate the island and rescue the boys. The word, fear, has a negative connotation, which shows difficulty.

Finally, a reader can identify that Ralph is through his actions. Golding reveals ' ‘You haven't got it with you,’ said Jack, sneering. ‘You left it behind. See, clever? And the conch doesn’t count at this end of the island--’ All at once the thunderstruck. Instead of the dull boom, there was a point of impact in the explosion. ‘The conch counts here too,’ said Ralph, ‘and all over the island.’ ‘What are you going to do about it then?’ Ralph examined the ranks of boys. There was no help in them and he looked away, confused and sweating. Piggy whispered. ‘The fire--rescue.’ ‘Who'll join my tribe?’ ‘I'll blow the conch,’ said Ralph breathlessly, ‘and call an assembly.’ ‘We shan't hear it.’[Jack] Piggy touched Ralph's wrist.” (Chapter 9) at this moment it is clear that Ralph is being left for Jack’s tribe, and the only people left are Ralph and Piggy with some littluns. In Conclusion, Ralph has changed throughout the story. In the beginning, he would take credit for other people's actions. Then throughout the story, he started to make people do his dirty work. At last, he and the rest of them except for Piggy and some littluns, then Piggy dies so Ralph was alone trying not to get killed by Jack. AIn the end, Ralph gets found by a police officer and then they go home.
