Me & Pixar & Disney Animation President: Similarities Compared

When I was four years old, I watched Disney and Pixar movies everyday, my favorite was Toy Story I would watch it many Limes. I loved it so much that my birthday party theme was Toy Story little did I know I would be reading a book from the President of Pixar and Disney Animation, Ed Catmull, who was the same person who influenced a part of my childhood. In Creativity Inc, Ed Catmull, he explains his journey to making animated movies and creating Pixar, Catmull and I have a few similarities, like following our dreams in order to be successful.

Ed Catmull and I both strive to be successful by not giving up and always believing in ourselves. However, we are different because he is creative and I am not. We are heroic in our effort to keep trying Catmull and I both keep trying no matter what obstacles get in our way.

For instance, I recently was in homework club to finish my missing assignments and them made us stay there for an hour until we finish our missing assignments I went to homework club for four days.

While I was in homework club, I finished the missing assignments for World History and I finished my essay for English and I finally got my grade up and I did not have to go to homework club. According to Catmull, “three times between 1987 and 1991 a fed up Steve Jobs tried to sell Pixar, this explains that Steve Jobs was so frustrated that he wanted to sell Pixar, but luckily he did not.

That would have affected Catmull because he was he one who created Pixar Catmull and I are both lucky to have people who did not allow us to be anyone else but ourselves.

For example, my friends wanted me to join the soccer team but I have never played soccer and I did not want to make a fool out of myself. Even though my friends wanted me to join, I did what was right for me, but I at least had the courage to try. According to Catmull, “The directors were shaken, and so were we in a sense, we had failed them causing them pain by putting them in a position they weren’t ready for”(70). This shows that we’re are similar because we both were put others in situations we were not ready for because my friends were not expecting me to quit soccer. Another reason that Catmull and I are alike is that we both do not give up even when life throws us curve hall. For example, I had to make a 3D model of a cell for my biology project and I made it out of cake and I ran out of decorations so I had to use things I found in my house.

However, Catmull and I are also different in the way we handle conflict for instance I had to create a pedigree of my family for class. I made a mistake by placing the order of the wrong names, I printed out small pictures and had reprinted the pictures bigger, but I did not start all over. When Catmull was creating Toy Story he constantly made mistakes for instance, Catmull's Pixar team was told that “it’s only a sequel [but] politely but firmly, Andrew demurred, “We’re going to redo it” (69). Rather than redoing the entire assignment, I decided to salvage what I had already completed, sometimes I think that it is better to fix what you already have, then to start over from scratch. Catmull decided to fix up the story of Toy Story and he had members of his team that everybody called “brain trust” and they were the ones responsible for making changes in Toy Story.

The braintrust changed whether or not the character Woody would go back home with his original owner, Andy. And later they also made revisions to the character Jessie, To continue, Catmull and I differ because of the way he thinks before he approaches a new situation. For example, Catmull states,“ the over planners just take longer to be wrong (and, when things inevitably go awry, are more crushed by the feeling that they have failed)”(114). This shows that Catmull likes to do things spontaneously and doesn‘t like to have a plan to follow in contrast I like to plan out my future and the way I conduct my daily activities. For example, I planned out what my life is going to be like after high school I plan to move to LA and go to culinary school, then have my own shop, I like to plan things out because I know what I want in life and have a plan of action of how I can achieve my goals.

In conclusion, Catmull and I may have our similarities but I believe he can be more creative than me. For example Catmull and I try our best to keep going no matter the obstacle. When Steve Jobs was thinking of selling Pixar, catmull was trying his best to convince Jobs to not selling Pixarr have a similar situation, for example, I was in homework club and I had tried to finish my missing assignments to get out of homework club. However, Catmull and I also have some differences for instance when Catmull was creating Toy Story he had to realize he made mistakes in the movie so he and his team decided to redo the movie. In addition, when I was creating my pedigree project I made mistakes where I misplace the names but I never started all over from scratch.
