US114055: Demonstrate an awareness of ethics and professionalism for the computer industry in South Africa.

For this topic I have chosen Software Licensing

Software licensing: legally using and following guidelines for the use and distributions of software. Typically provides end users with rights to one or more copies of the software without violating copyrighted. It also defines the responsibilities of the parties entering into the license agreement and may contain restrictions on how the software can be used.

Software terms and conditions contain fair uses which are the imitations of liabilities, warranties and disclaimers as well as protections. Fair use is a legal concept that allows the reproduction of copyrighted material for certain purposes generally news reporting, teaching or scholarly research. Trial versions of software are created for companies to test if the software meets their business requirements.

Software licenses are either proprietary, open source or free. Proprietary describes a technology or product that is owned exclusively by a single company that carefully guards knowledge about the technology or the products. Open source refers to any program whose source code is made available for use or modification as users or other developers to suit their needs or requirements.

Copying, distributing of software is illegal. Piracy causes significant loss in revenue for publishers which in turn results in higher prices for the consumers. When you purchase a commercial software package you will receive an end user license agreement (EULA), typically the license states that you can install the original copy of software you bought on one computer and that you can make a backup copy in case the original is lost or damaged.

US114059: Demonstrate an understanding of estimating a unit work and the implications of late Delivery.

Time management is essential for resolving technical issues. Direct/indirect costs, tangible/intangible costs and real costs with dates and time expected to be resolved. Late deliveries on related components cause a stop in business procedures.

It is a process by which organizations can analyse decisions, systems or projects. This model is built by identifying the benefits of an action as well as the associated costs, and subtracting the costs from benefits. This date is not estimated and planned due to an appointment made with the consignee. However the date is estimated in the event of a delay which consequently would could cause the delivery appointment to be rescheduled.

Structured programming - is the top down approach design. Data and function doesn't tide with each other. Large programs are divided into smaller segments known as functions. Data moves openly around the system from function to function. Functions are dependent so reusability is not possible.

Object orientated programming language - is the bottom up approach design. Function and data are tied together. Programs are divided into entity called objects. Data is hidden and can't be accessed by the external world. Functions are not dependent so reusability is possible.

US114050: Explain the principles of business and the roles of information technology.

The information such as the service or product, the target demographic and a unique selling proposition. It may involve a new product or a novel approach to marketing or delivering an existing product.

Fundamental business concepts

  • Plan the strategy - write a business plan, aims and goals.
  • Technology - using the internet and computer skills
  • Finance - statements - cash flow, balance sheets, profit and loss, raising money, standard documents are used (example - receipts), to keep track of transactions.
  • Legal aspects - ownership - sole proprietor, partnership, public limited company
  • Marketing - the marketing principle, target market, market segmentation
  • The business environment - communications - written, verbal, non-verbal, stakeholders - shareholders, internal and external customers, economics - micro making a company work within the economy, macro making a nation or globe economy work

Websites allow customers to find answers to their questions after hours. Shipment options allow businesses to move products over a large geographic area. When customers use technology to interact with businesses, the communication creates a stronger public image.

US116389: Write a Technical report.

At Broll Property Group a call was logged for an end user laptop battery that is not charging and certain keys are not functional. The make, model and serial number were recorded and the call was moved to Broll Procurement for a quote on a replacement battery and keyboard. A technical report was drawn as seen in Figure 6.

US115431: Analyse feedback contexts and apply constructive feedback techniques.

Feedback is an essential element for everyone in an organizations workforce. It is a task performed again and again as a manager or supervisor letting people know where they are and where to go next in terms of expectations and goals - yours, their own and the organizations.

Feedback is used to indicate when things are going in the right direction for a redirecting problem performance. The objective is giving feedback to provide guidance by back on track toward successful performance.

Situations that require feedback is when someone asks for your opinion, unresolved problems persist and performance doesn't meet expectations. When giving feedback focus on, Description rather than judgement, Observation rather than inference, Behaviour rather than the person, give a balance of positive and negative feedback and be aware of overload. Methods of giving constructive feedback will be stating the constructive purpose, describe specifically what you have observed, describe your reactions. Give the other person an opportunity to respond, offer specific suggestions, summarize and express your support.
