Let me not to the marriage of true minds
Admit impediments. Love is not love
Which alters when it alteration finds,
Or bends with the remover to remove.
Oh no! It is an ever fixed mark
That looks on tempests and is never shaken.
It is the star to every wandering bark,
Whose worth's unknown, although his height be taken.
Love's not Time's fool, though rosy lips and cheeks
Within his bending sickle's compass come.
Love alters not with his brief hours and weeks,
But bears it out even to the edge of doom.
If this be error and upon me proved,
I never writ, nor no man ever loved.
Sonnet 116 was all about True Love.
Shakespeare makes his assertion of his thoughts about Love. “Love is not love, which alters when alteration finds”, I personally and strongly agree to his thought that love shall endure all the pains, obstacles, and risks of true love. It shall not be just taken away with external factors in life because in the first place it revolves between two individuals who displays and shows true affection of love.
I could say that I can relate to Shakespeare’s Sonnet, for the reason that I have felt the feeling of being in love and be loved.
On his first line, a song came just right through my head while I was sitting next to a radio, the ‘Two is better than One’. Being alone makes life so simple, but this simplicity makes life so dull.
Just like a quote, ‘No man is an island’, the art of love adds spice and an extraordinary satisfaction which no one could ever pay.
True love makes world go-round. The jive of joy, tears, fears, doubts, excitement and even revelations are the elements of why true love make you feel go-round. Love is love when you felt so weak, yet you overcome. Love is love when you shed tears in front of the mirror thinking of your loved one. Love is love when you go through challenges in life, taking risks not knowing what will happen next. Love doesn’t calculate or even predict every detail. In love, things aren’t impossible! That’s why it was like a Ferris wheel, sometimes you felt so down , sometimes you get high. Like with Shakespeare, ‘Love...Which alters when it alteration finds’, it’s not love at all.
There are so many great gifts in life, but one of the most inexpensive yet full of meaning and most touching, is LOVE. Love can be anything you wanted it to be; you can have what you want. Ironically speaking, how does love keep you living nowadays wherein the cost of living is too high? In my own perception, TRY TO LOOK AT THE BIGGER PICTURE. Love makes you feel so inspired, it makes you energetic, makes you think about the positivity in life, it makes you GO TO WORK, not only for yourself, but to achieve your goals in life and aim for the better living, not only living in these modern days, but to live happily with your loved ones.
I personally love the way Shakespeare define and made use the term ‘Love’ in these sonnet. He defines it that “It is the star to every wandering bark...Oh no! It is an ever fixed mark”. When I read those lines, my parents flash to my mind. My father is a seafarer, and my mother is a housewife. It
gives me goose bumps as I think of what kind of love they had. It took those years living separately to earn and to live for our family, but it doesn’t keep them weak, yet it made them stronger. With love, which shines always up in the sky, my father still knows the way back home as the star guides him to where he should be. Love is like lighthouse too! Whenever you navigate a ship, plotting your way in a deep vast ocean, a lighthouse will always be there which you can rely on, a fix, a guide to your right direction whenever you get lost, lonely, and in doubt. Love will always be there to shine upon you!
Love’s worth yet still unknown. A mystery in life which cannot be explained through words but could be understand through the feelings and affections shown. If true love isn’t true, then I want to stand by the name of Shakespeare to prove that true love exists! For what I’ve learned, as I define the meaning of love; Love is friendship. Love is patient. Love is enjoyment. Love is trust. Love is jealous. Love is sadness. Love is revelations. Love is tears. Love is smile. Love is acceptance. Love is true to those who believe in the worth of loving someone, living for that person, dreaming and achieving goals together in life as they make their vows on a five-steps high altar, and ‘for better or for worse, for richer or for poorer, ‘til death do us apart...for a life of happily ever after’.
