Why does Edmund hate his family?

Edmund's hatred for his family began primarily due to a sense of injustice he perceived towards himself. He feels as though he has been treated unfairly and has been overlooked in favor of his older brother, Edgar, who is the rightful heir to their father's position and wealth. Edmund was born out of wedlock and feels that he is viewed as inferior to Edgar, which fuels his anger and resentment towards his family. Edmund is also jealous of the close relationship that exists between Edgar and their father, Gloucester. He perceives that Edgar receives preferential treatment from their father and is showered with love and attention, while he is ignored and dismissed.
