How does Edmund trick Edgar?

Edmund, the illegitimate son of the Earl of Gloucester in William Shakespeare's play "King Lear," tricks Edgar, his legitimate brother, by using his cunning and malicious plotting to convince their father that Edgar is plotting against him. Edmund's plan begins by forging a false letter supposedly written by Edgar, in which he states his intentions to kill their father and take over his estate. Edmund leaves the letter in a prominent location for their father to find it, using it as evidence to convince him that Edgar is a traitor. To further add to his scheme, Edmund pretends to be sympathetic towards their father, informing him that he overheard Edgar confessing to his plans, making Edgar look even more guilty.
